I actually found this book a fascinating insight into what could happen in our world if we lost everything. I found the storyline fast moving and was delighted to discover that there are more books in this series to read and continue the journey!

Started reading it and thought it was a bit amateurish but turned out to be good actually! Once the action starts its pretty intense and keeps you glued to the book, wanting to know what's happened to them or whats going to happen. But did think it was a bit fair fetched in some places, but its a fictional book, so it's to be expected. Also it's a very much a "goodies win badies lose" book, sort of book that you can guess whats going to happen. But of you're the person who likes apocalyptic guns n glory action (with a hint of romance) this is your book...!

I was pleased at the s** less story line and the determination of the survivors but who or what made the decision to pick on the survivor bunkers of the politicians and generals? and leave all the poor basic humans to live? the the selfish sods with guns tried to mastermind a slave driven power train in there greed and blindness to there fellow human beings. then a few more self gratifying people the Peacekeepers emerge to gather and lead the few sane and sensable to places of safety ans recreate a safer environment for the people who want a peaceful life for there families.
but who or what made the decision I still want to know?

From start to finish this is a hard story to put down. The characters are very real and easy to picture. A book that make you think what our world would be like if things went badly wrong. Good storyline and pace. Can't wait to read the next instalment to gain more survival tips.

Imagine the scene, teacher says to class "I want you to write a description for a new board game" I only want the younger boys to take part and I want it to be a combined effort. I'll check the spelling afterwards.
Don't bother making any great distinction between the characters, they are only going to be cardboard cutouts. So they can all have the same characteristics and indistinguishable from each other.
Don't bother with any feeling of the countryside you're passing through or the final destination as that'll be just a few straight lines on the board leading to an obvious end.
Make a good detailed list of everything you pick up along the way as that'll be a key and all consuming part of the game.
Don't worry about adding any humour, but if you do, make sure straight afterwards that it's clearly identified as being meant as a joke. Add a bit of school boy violence, but no human like feelings please, don't forget your only 8 years old.
And Tommy you can add in that spaceship if you want to, so that little boys will want to buy the game. But if you do I want EVERY single part of it described so that we can build the model accurately.
Try to make it as implausible, boring, impersonal and comic book like as possible.
Next term I'll be asking the girls to do the same and probably just make the board pink instead of blue. I'm sure there will be plenty of takers and kids can swap the characters in the playground.

At the price (free) one can't complain. This book kept me busy during lunch hours for a few days. Although never a page turner I did however make it to the end and have some connection with the main characters.
The introduction of a twist made the final conclusion all too easy and somehow changed the escence from post apocalyptic novel to science fiction.
In summary, a bit stilted and a touch unsure of its roots.
