Format: Hardcover
This is a an amazing little treasure of a book, with gorgeous illustrations of birds from wren, rook and house sparrow, to the more exotic galah ("A long-lived and unruly Australian parrot. A flock of galahs is splendid in flight,a deep pink and gray billowing cloud".) hoopoe and great bowerbird. Each bird gets a full page illustration with a description or interesting fact on the page opposite.

Perfect present for any bird geeks or art geeks you know! And I've just made the amazing discovery that they come as notecards too...

I was bought this as a Christmas present and have felt the need to write my first ever review, but to be honest I was pretty disappointed.
The front cover is the most interesting/ attractive picture in the book.
Note the picture for the house sparrow roughly drawn/painted only in brown is, I'm afraid, I feel a very drab and poor representation of a charming bird.
Next to each picture is a small paragraph about each bird.
Not I think for a true bird enthusiast to pause over.
And it's very small.
There might be other more inspiring artists interpretations out there?

This is a beautifully illustrated book about the birds which we all love. Each illustration is accompanied by interesting bits of information about each bird. The sort of book for anyone that loves anything pretty or arty or birdie for that matter.

4.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful Art 27 April 2011
By AnnaEHS - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover Verified Purchase
This is a lovely book. I leave it out on my coffee table and pick it up, look at the art, and read a few profiles. It's not a "read it and shelve it" book, it's more of an art piece. Also, don't expect a bird watcher'd refernce, or every detail to be addressed here. As the artist states in the book, it's more for "the love of birds" than it is a definitive guide. This would make a great gift for a bird or art lover.
