ALEXANDER MCNABB Alexander McNabb has been working in, living in and travelling around the Middle East for some 30 years. Formerly a journalist, editor and magazine publisher, today he is a consultant on media, publishing and digital communications. Alexander is a frequent conference speaker, chair and moderator – as well as commentator in broadcast and print media - particularly around technology, media and online issues. When he’s not writing books, he’s posting half-thoughts and snippets on his blog, Fake Plastic Souks, which he started in 2007 during the Arab Media Forum. The title refers to the ‘new’ souks of Dubai, so much more convenient and classy than the real thing. Alexander’s first serious novel was the critically acclaimed Olives – A Violent Romance, a work that explores the attitudes, perceptions and conflicts of the Middle East, exposing a European sensibility to the strange and multi-layered world of life on the borders of Palestine. Self-published in 2011, the book found a receptive audience and triggered wide controversy. This was followed by testosterone-soaked international spy thriller Beirut – An Explosive Thriller, which was self-published in the UAE in 2012. He published his third Middle East based novel, Shemlan – A Deadly Tragedy, a thriller about a dying man unearthing his past, in 2013. A Decent Bomber, set in Ireland, published in 2015 and Birdkill published on March 1st 2016. You can find Alexander and his books at www.alexandermcnabb.com.

A well constructed and sustained story that will keep you turning the pages. The characters are strong with emotional depth and the writing is confident and knowledgeable. Don't miss this one, it's something a bit different but with the usual authentic feel - nice details and a story that rings true despite the unusual premise. It's definitely worth a download at least. McNabb is getting better with each new novel. Start collecting.

Wow! Just finished Birdkill, my 5th McNabb book. It is a real page-turner and full of surprises. I now want to discuss the book, characters and the ending with others. So I would sincerely recommend this book not just as a great individual read, but also to a book club, as I can only imagine the great discussions that would be debated about what really happened. And If you are looking for something that will really keep you up at night reading way past your bedtime this is it!

McNabb's latest is a slight shift in game plan and opens new territory for him. Nice story paces well and a full twist at the end. A mostly UK England based novel of 'now' with government, press and individual well covered, mandarins do what mandarins do and so do reporters. Great story, characters well expanded - fully worth the time to read
