    I've has this for a few months and bought it for my student bedroom as my bathroom seems to collect a lot of dust very quickly as it has no window or flow of air. I always look into reviews fully and shop price conscientiously. This seemed to be one if the better small extractors you can get and I like how you can turn the ozone feature off so I'd I take ur back and use it at home I know my cats are safe. I haven't noticed any particular snell like when reading reviews of this and other ozone purifiers.

    Straight away I could tell the difference and my bathroom is much better! I just plug it into an extension lead and switch it on in my bathroom when I'm out at uni on occassional days.
    You can also see the dust collected through the filter grill in the top.
    Personally even if I put it in the bathroom and had it on the low setting with the door closed, I can still hear the noise. That said my bathroom is right next to my bed and I'm a very light sleeper. As such if you are a light sleeper and need something on at night I would not recommend - although if you clean your room and switch this on occassionally throughout the day it shouldn't need to be on at night.
    The build quality is good and as I have only had this a few months I haven't had to change or clean the filter - another reason I went for this model is the fact that you can wash the filter although I think you can also buy another if needed. It is good how it let's you know by light when you switch it on if the filter needs cleaning or not.
    It is also handy to be able to have this upright or on the side for those tight spaces.

    I would highly recommend this and have no doubt about it lasting a long time. The great results were instantly recognisable in my case.

    My main criticism of the Bionaire is it is noisy. That said during the hay fever peak, it did the job in a room of around 60 sq meters. Unfortunately I'd bought it for s small child's bedroom, and its too noisy to leave running all night (even on lowest setting) and neither does it have a timer. Always run with ioniser on, but honestly not sure I notice any difference between having it on or off. Filters are small and basic (e.g.: no charcoal) which might restrict effectiveness and probably means they need changing frequently. The HEPA filter is an additional extra (and also very basic).

    I suffer from hay fever, and now is the time of year that it really shows.
    I was hoping this air filter would make a difference, but unfortunately, I don't notice much improvement.
    A few observations:

    1) The ioniser is NOT independent. You cannot have the ioniser on without the fan running (there are many fanless ionisers out there), you only can turn it off while the fan is running
    2) The air intake is near the switch (at the front of the picture), the air comes out far from the switch (i.e. up to the top when the device is in horizontal position). This was not clear from the description, and actually makes it less useful as a fan.
    3) It's all plastic (the air grids look a bit like metal in the picture)
    4) I was quite disappointed with the packaging. There is a lot of polystyrol (non-recyclable) and plastic wrapping in an unnecessarily large box. Some very expensive laptops ship in a cardboard-only box, so I don't understand why a comparatively cheap and sturdy device need so much padding.
    5) I can't actually tell whether the ioniser is working. Even if I leave it all day in a 9sqm room with the windows closed, I can't make out the particular smell I'm used to from ionisers (a bit like after a thunderstorm).

    There were some comments about noise in other reviews. It is more of a pink noise, which is not quiet, but will fade into the background after a while. I live on a (sometimes) quite noise road, and from that perspective, it actually helps blocking out the road noise. Well, luckily I have a meter here.
    On carpet in a typical living, 1m away I get:
    61db on level 3 (the fastest)
    57db on level 2 (medium)
    51db on level 1 (slow)
    The background noise level was 42db on this measurement, which is about the rustling of leaves.
    It definitely hasn't got the hum of your average bathroom fan, not sure how else to describe it.

    Ultimately, it sort of does what it says on the tin, namely sucking polluted air in and spitting clear air out, so I can't fault it for that. It's a shame there isn't an option for an even slower fan speed or having the ioniser running without the fan.
