A gorgeous, gloriously romantic read with buckets of charm - I absolutely loved it! (Jill Mansell)
A sweet and sparkling debut from a lovely lady. Sure to be a hit. (Carole Matthews)
Only the most hard-hearted could fail to root for Sophie as she falls for A-lister Billy and must take on the mad, bad world of showbiz. This sweet debut reminded me of Last Night at Chateau Marmont (Louise Candlish)
Wonderfully warm & cosy. The perfect comfort read to curl-up with and enjoy (Ali McNamara)

From the Inside Flap
Sophie May has a secret.
One that she's successfully kept for years. It's meant that she's had to give up her dreams of going to university and travelling the world to stay in her little village, living with her mum and working in the local teashop.
But then Sophie unexpectedly meets the gorgeous Billy Buskin - a famous actor with ambitions to make it to the top. As they begin to grow closer, Sophie finds herself whisked away from the comfort of her life into Billy's glamorous - but ruthless - world.
After years of shying away from attention, can Sophie handle the constant scrutiny that comes with being with Billy? How much is she prepared to give up along the way? And is their love strong enough to keep them together against the odds?

The locations were great too-a simple country lifestyle in Kent juxtaposed with the pace and glamour of London highlife.
The plot itself could have been out and out fluff and glamour given the subject matter, but actually Billy and Me is as much a book about bereavement, self esteem and realising what is important in life as it is about celebrity relationships. Ultimately, it is about seeking what makes you happy. Reading this book over new year was especially poignant as I was already in that mode of reassessing hopes and dreams and this book pushed me on to think about exactly what I want out of life.
There was only one minor point that irritated me slightly whilst reading, and that was the abundance of exclamation marks. I tend to read with quite a lot of emphasis and intonation and found myself wishing there weren't so many as it disturbed the flow. That said, I am aware this is purely personal preference and it definitely didn't deter me from reading on.
If you love chicklit, romance and dreaming of celebrity heartthrobs, this is an absolute must-read for you.
Billy and Me is the debut novel from Giovanna Fletcher. It's about an ordinary woman falling in love with a famous actor. It's pretty much a modern day Cinderella story, which I love. I'm a sucker for a happy ending. What made me want to check out this book in particular was the fact that it was written by a lady that knows the subject of falling in love with a famous person all too well.
Sophie May is a lovely, homely character who loves books (immediately a win for me!). She lives at home with her mum and works in a local teashop alongside her best friend Molly, the older lady that owns the teashop. Sophie is such a great character because she's so down to earth and relatable. I loved Sophie and Molly's friendship. It was so heart-warming.
Billy and Me is different to the typical chick-lit because Sophie and Billy get together early on in the story, so you don't have the usual `Will they, won't they?' scenario. This is great because the focus is on the deeper issues that come with the kind of relationship they have when half of the couple is incredibly famous. I liked that the book alternated between Sophie's small village life and the fast-paced nature of London. It was a lovely contrast and so realistic as well. I loved Sophie and Billy's relationship. It was sweet and very easy to root for.
Billy and Me is a easy to read and hard to put down debut novel. I really enjoyed reading it. Giovanna Fletcher has done a fabulous job with her first book, creating some relatable and extremely likeable characters. I look forward to what she writes next as she's bound to get better and better. I even think she might turn into one of my "Must buy" authors as soon as their book comes out!
Read this from a friend's recommendation thanks so much!

I had high hopes but the writing seemed kind of amateur and a bit immature. I found the main character really dull. Shame.Published 16 days ago by LucyHart
