I saw this televised as a series here in New Zealand and was in the audience at one of the live shows (Christchurch.)
The live excerpts are typical of those you usually see of Connolly: Very, very funny, but you generally lose a lot "in the edit."
The man's stagecraft is superb, as he meanders around several stories, but never loses the original thread, often returning to deliver the punchline as long as fifteen minutes away from the original set-up without ever "losing his place."
Television tends to prefer neat little soundbytes and Conolly's frequent use of expletives must often leave the editor with very little to work with!
The fact that he bothered to perform to some very small audiences in remote locations (International music acts take note!) does get airtime here, but most enjoyment can be derived by the unique travel guide he presents in this series.
He never relies on cheap laughs during these informative excursions and always shows the utmost respect for the people and places he visits.
As an ex-pat British man living in New Zealand myself, I learned quite a few things from Billy's wandering around.
If you want to see something other than the usual "Lonely Planet" style backpackers guide to this beautiful country and its proud inhabitants, with the added bonus of some ageless, ribald, Scottish humour - this is thoroughly recommended.
The simple message behind the "Too Old to Die Young" tour this series is based around is "Grow old but never grow up" and the genuine, childlike, enthusiasm he displays toward his subject matter, as he tours the country on his custom trike seems to suggest that Billy Connolly continues to live by this edict. Thankfully!

I only own this DVD of Billy's, i really do need to buy more. I love New Zealand and have visited it several times due to various relatives, but never fully explored the beautiful scenery it holds. Quite a place, and its explored brilliantly by Connolly, his accent perfect for story telling and even better for his comedy. Absolutey fantastic laughs, has me in histerics still after the about 8th time of watching them. Couldn't recommend this more, seriously one to buy, such damn good fun. It's also a laugh having at several points shouted out to myself, i've stood there, literally. Also a couple of tracks on the 2nd DVD worth a look at.

I own a couple of Billy Connolly's world tour series on DVD and i think this is one of the best. The scenery of New Zealand is amazing and Billy's story telling and commedy is the perfect compliment to this, i would highly recommend this 2 disc set, i know i have watched it many times over now and will continue to do so. Enjoy!!

I enjoyed this 312 min REGION B/2 Billy Connolly s World Tour Of Australia BUT. I have all of his World Tours-England, Ireland, Wales, New Zealand, Route 66, Journey to the Edge of the World and Tracks Across America with the only one missing being Scotland but in my opinion this is the weaker one. I really like his World Tours but would rather watch them without extracts from his live shows. If I wanted to watch his recorded live shows I would go and buy his many DVD S or watch him live. I am sure many people would rather like me, see him split his two very good professional abilities into separate categories.

He says at the end of the series that he doesn't do geography programmes. True, but in terms of being a travel programme you can't help but to be taken in by his passion for street entertainers, art work, pie floaters, climbing the giant coat hanger, Ned Kelly, Harold Holt, dampers, aboriginal food and being in the middle of flat Outback in dry, sun scorched conditions. I lived the series with him and felt the onset of post holiday blues when it ended. Inspirational. Oh, and I really enjoyed the snippets of his string playing and stage performances too!

If you live elsewhere in the world, it will be a great introduction to New Zealand.

If you're planning a trip to NZ, you should see this first -- he visits many of the well-known NZ sights and experiences, but he's also managed to dig up some off-the-beaten-path, little-known gems.

The tourism segments are interspersed with comedy segments from the shows he put on in NZ whilst he was there. If you object to graphic sexual references or strong profanity (which are hallmarks of Billy Connolly's comedy), ***DO NOT BUY THIS***.

The things we love about comedians are their astute observations and mastery of the language. The distractive thing about them is their whiny voices and manic mannerisms.
Billy Connolly is possibly the only stand up who does not behave like a big nerd. He delivers his routine like one of the boys and gets away with the taboo.
I saw him perform in Sydney a few years back and had stomach cramps from laughing out aloud. Laughing out aloud - especially in a public place - is rare for me. I did it when I saw “Life of Brian, Black Adder, The Young ones, Little Britain, the Office and when I saw the comedians Simon Roptell and Morgan Dehar (Garter & Quail) perform last year in Newtown.(Very funny and Amazonians - please keep me posted when stuff gets released from these guys!!!!!)
Anyway, Connolly’s stand up is brilliant here, but the tour bits wane a little. The people he meets and places he goes matter little - We are hanging out for the comedy. Australia is a great place and Connolly the tour guide is likeable – but Connolly the stand up is genius. I urge comedy buffs to look out for “Billy Connolly live 1994” - Best video performance ever.
Otherwise if you like your stand up mixed in with a travelogue – this is the dvd.
