The 335 is unmistakably Billingham - classic, well thought-through design and hand crafted quality make this a bag of distinction. Its a mid-sized camera bag for those who have moderate amounts/sizes of gear.
No-nonsense, safe access
Our most popular range of bags, the 5 series is unmistakably Billingham
Classic, well thought-through design and handcrafted quality.
The no-nonsense approach of the 5 Series is popular with busy photographers who like the fact that they can get to all their gear quickly and safely thanks to the TukTop feature. This allows the two sides of the zippered opening to be tucked behind the bag's internal front and rear dividers.
You'll find nine good-sized main pockets in all - two at the front under the flap, two in the inside zippered front compartment, four internal slip pockets in the main compartment and a zippered rear pocket.
The ideal location choice
When you look at the detail design of the 5 Series, you'll notice the way the Quick Release System has been adapted so that the top grain leather straps pass through solid brass 'D' rings at the end of the webbing carry-handles. We've done it this way to provide fast, secure closure even when the bag is heavily loaded. An embossed leather grab handle holds them both together.
Behind the main flap you will find the secondary flap which protects the two full-depth front pockets. By their side is a handy pen pocket and behind them there is the full width double-zippered pocket and of course, the main zippered compartment with the TukTop feature. At the back, a full-width zippered pocket is ideal for manuals or documents.
Thanks to a third, internal web carry handle, moving a 5 Series around safely - even with the main flap open - is no problem. You will find this feature very useful when changing lenses, or don't need to be continually opening and closing your bag.
All 5 Series bags are fitted with an adjustable 'Y' shaped Delta sling, designed to help prevent rocking, even when the bag is full. For times when you need extra space, optional Delta Pockets can be fitted to the base of the sling.
If you'd like to carry your bag on your back we've fitted 5 point mounting loops for the optional Back Pack Harness - they can also be used with our tripod straps.
Finally to protect the underside, brass feet are fitted to top grain leather corner patches, while internally the bottom of the bag features a padded, waterproofed base.

What seems to be different from my older 335 are the tuck flaps - which are very handy - and the zip pulls. The zip pulls lack a hole for me to tie tabs to - useful for gloved hands. The leather throughout seems to be a little darker now (from memory) but the construction, layout and details are basically the same and very functional. The new leather is a bit stiff still but will soften with use and be more pliable with time. The tan SP40 shoulder pad that I added matches the bag's leather perfectly.
Behind the two patch pockets on the front of the bag is a more padded accessory pocket. An iPad fits comfortably in here. There won't be a deep enough area in the main camera compartment to adequately hold a tablet especially when you put cameras in. The green dividers that you get for the main compartment are not all equal in width. You get two wider square footprint compartments and two (less useful) slimmer ones that has the approximate profile of a flash. There is a gap of maybe 5-10 cms from where the dividers end to the top of the bag - perfect for placing a camera with a lens mounted facing down, ready to go.
I traveled yesterday with the bag fully loaded - every pocket crammed to capacity with passports, tablet, cables, chargers, readers, keys and a heap of paraphernalia. The bag holds a lot and becomes wider in girth as the pockets fill up. No problem for flying, it fit comfortably into an overhead airplane bin on a European hop.
This is a bag that is made for long term use and is laid out in a way which is very practical to work from. As I said, this is the second 335 I have owned - first one would have kept on trucking for a long while yet - had I not sold it. In fact, these bags look and feel much better when it has weathered a little and the leather tabs are a bit softer.
One thing I did change was one of the flexible partition thing that came with the bag. That decision will be driven by the type of kit you want to carry. I thought a 9-15 and 9-18 worked better, your call.
At a push I can get a D70 with a 50mm, D300s with a 11-16mm a 70-300 and a SB-400 in this, which is more than sufficient for most trips out.
It is very sturdy, has a lot of handy pockets for other bits and pieces and it doesn't shout "Look at me, I've got camera gear in me, please steal me!".
A really good product that feels as if it will last for a good while!
