The first half of this video is a tribute to the late Bill Hicks with such "luminaries" as Jay Leno and David Letterman (?). Interviewees also include Hicks' Mum and Dad , friends, and fellow comedians. The second half is one of his shows filmed at the Dominion theatre. I would've awarded 5 stars but I wasn't too keen on the first half.
I'm sure I don't really need to spell out what Hicks was about. Needless to say, it is a joy to see Hicks attacking such destructive and brainwashing concepts as religion, capitalism and, worst of all, commercial music!
The man was a legend....

I think that Bills Hicks is easily the greatest comedian of all time, so you see, Im not biased. The video is divided into two halfs and I will deal with each one seperately.
1) Its Just A Ride
A documentary about Bill's life and comedy. It is quite ironic seeing Jay Leno singing Bill's praises and then listening to what Bill had to say about Jay (check out "Artistic Rollcall" from the "Rant In E Minor" cd). This would of been better had it featured interviews with people who had really been massive fans of Bill and then became comics themselves or people who really knew Bill (Mary Hicks YES, Eric Bogosian NO). It contains footage of Bill performing from "Relentless", "Revelations" and various other TV appearances. My favourite part of this half is the "Play From Your Heart" bit taken from the "Relentless" video.
2) This is a great Hicks show but I think that its the censored version shown on Channel 4. Still great though, check out "Go Back To Bed America" and the only commercial videotape appearance of "Goatboy". This isnt as aggressive as the "Relentless" tape and presents a more restrained Hicks.
Check it out for yourself, and wait for the "Relentless" DVD.

Genius; the funniest comedian I have ever heard.

Bill Hicks is a name not well known in this country, but he was one of the funniest, and most thought-provoking comedians to ever ply the trade. His views on the world were too extreme for many and this probably resulted in him not making it on mainstream tv but if you are not easily offended and refuse to believe that the 'establishment' is all-knowing Bill Hicks is the man for you. I bought this video based soley on 2 minutes of his material that appeared in the Preacher comic series. It was the best thing I ever did. The man was a genius, Dennis Leary has a lot to thank him for. Bill Hicks RIP

Dead...but still funnier than anyone else

Bill Hicks never achieved mass recognition in his lifetime. And as is so often the case, it is only now he's dead that people start to find out about him, which is a genuine shame. He is compared most often to Lenny Bruce and George Carlin, and I think it's fair to say this.
Hicks didn't tell jokes, he told everyone how he saw the world, but used laser-guided humour and savage contempt for anything that appealed "to the cattle instinct of y'all". Anything was fair game, be it the hypocrisy of the pornography industry ("all models are 18...these are models now, yeah right, and I'm an amusement engineer") to the faults with George Bush and Clinton.
This video gives you his last ever performance in the UK along with a tribute video with family, friends, peers and imitators paying homage to a truly original voice in comedy.

Bill Hicks in my opinion is the best comedian that ever lived. Bill hicks was seen as a very controversial figure in his home country, America for his left wing views, which he portrayed through his live stand up comedy. This video shows Bill Hicks at his best and still making us think about the world we live in. If you like comedy this is a must buy!

The funniest comedian alive.... or dead as the case may be!

Well, what can be said about the late, great Bill Hicks? He's sarcastic, bitter and twisted, obsessed with sex and every other word is a four letter one!!! From that description, don't even think that he's anything like Bernard Manning or Chubby Brown - Bill Hicks posesses the intelligence and observational skills that they both sadly lack. He is a complete genius and despite being American, his humour translates excellently - which is unusual. There are excellent CD's of his material available, but to get the full effect I advise the video - you really need to see that wonderfully deadpan face and body language.
