Bill & Ben find a strange object in the garden and go "Around and Around" the garden looking for its rightful owner. They have "A Night to Remember" when Slowcoach has an uninvited guest and play "Game for a Laugh"--until things start to mysteriously disappear. Everyone looks for Whoops, the worm, in "The Great Worm Hunt" and Bill & Ben are very surprised to find "Two New Flowerpot Men" in next door's garden.
Running time: 50 minutes approximately.
Bill and Ben--Garden Games is an entertaining and colourful 52-minute BBC video aimed at two to five year olds. The Flowerpot Men had their first heyday in the last century in the BBC's "Watch with Mother". The two lovable children's puppets became famous for their unusual linguistic patter and their friend "Weeeeeeed"; their popularity spanning from 1952 to 1971. Bill and Ben have had a substantial makeover to launch their comeback in the 21st century. They have lost their strings and the stop-frame animation yields sophisticated results. A narrator helps move the story along and explain the duo's unintelligible "Flobbadob" lingo, although their speech does now feature the occasional recognisable word. The five ten-minute episodes are well crafted, with interesting and modern storylines. Weed has a varied vocabulary and carries an air of maternal wisdom. Slow Coach the Tortoise from the original show is joined by a host of new, colourful characters including Tad the Frog and Pry the Magpie. Bill and Ben also venture into their neighbour's well-manicured garden where a snooty rose adds a humorous dimension--youngsters will giggle at the episode "Phwoooar" when Bill and Ben follow their noses to discover it is Rose's manure that is causing the "Flobbadob pong"!
Parents who watched Bill and Ben the first time around and nostalgically hope their children will enjoy them as much as they did will not be disappointed, as this video will captivate, charm and delight a new generation of preschoolers. --Tracey Hogan --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.
