This is an absolutely fantastic book for anyone wanting to learn Java. It is very detailed and explains very carefully and in depth the fundamentals of the programming language. I would've rated it 6/5 if Amazon would let me! Particularly useful for any students learning computer programming!

THIS BOOK IS NOT AS DESCRIBED.
This is the Fourth Edition, published in 2010. Java 7 was released in July 2011. there are some special mentions in the book of what will be coming in Java 7, but the main body of the book uses Java 5 or 6. It even says this quite plainly on the back cover.
Java 8 was released in March 2014 and is not mentioned or covered at all.

HOWEVER
I you want a book that covers Java 5 or 6 then this is the book for you. It is one of the best books for learning Java that I have come across. The material is well paced, thorough, and very well written. Absolute beginners might find a steepish learning curve to start with, but I would recommend it to all comers.

Just NOT for Java 7 OR 8. Which is what I particularly wanted it for. I shall be contacting Amazon.

Excellent condition, sold at a very good price, item as described and delivered very quickly.

Hi can highly recommend the book as a reference for Java. I wouldn't recommend it for those who have no experience as a book to teach programming from scratch. There aren't really exercises that the user can work through, but once you're working through your first programming project this is a great book.

Required material on several of my previous university courses. It's a good choice. Examples are clear and consistent so you don't have to read though many different cases for different examples. Primarily it is focused on a Bank Account example.

Covers pretty much all areas of basic Java in at least someway. Object oriented design, JVM, CLI, GUI, even a little web.
