Look good and feel great all year round with this practical step-by-step guide to introducing juices and smoothies into your life. The Big Book of Juices and Smoothies is founded on two basic principles. First, that juicing is easy if we simply adopt the habit of it; and second, that juicing every day is a delicious way to get healthy and stay healthy. A 10-page introduction presents the principles of juicing, while the 365 different juice and smoothie blends are divided up into three central chapters: "Making Juices", "Making Smoothies" and "Juices with Fizz" (juice recipes with a little added something - such as soda water, herbs or spices). Every juice and smoothie is given an at-a-glance nutrient profile (listing vitamins, minerals and phytonutrients), and a star-rating on its merits as an energy- and immune-booster, a detoxer, and a tonic for the skin. The last chapter presents nutrient and ailment charts, with full cross-referencing to the 365 blends, making this the most practical and comprehensive juice book on the market.

Given that all sugar, including fruit sugar, is not good for health, and that this book offered 365 opportunities to provide a fair spread of healthy juices with vegetables, I was somewhat disappointed. If you are putting on weight around your abdomen, and have even a teeny suspicion you are in a pre-diabetic state (Metabolic syndrome) or have type 2 diabetes, this book will not do you any favours and you should choose a book with more healthy juice recipes such as The New Green Juicing Diet by Elizabeth Swann. However, that said, if juices and smoothies are your thing, you will find no end of combinations to suit your ever-changing needs for sugar and keep you happy with your juicing choices. It is well set out and gives a modicum of information re the vitamins etc found in the various fruits and some veg mentioned. I purchased this copy as a used purchase and am heartily glad I didn't pay full price. Savvy juicers will know that you can adjust the fruit content and slip some vegetables into some of the juice recipes and give them to children but this is not so easily achieved with smoothies. All in all, not a bad book, just somewhat one-sided in its approach.
Having had a few digestive problems recently I bought this book as a desperate measure.
At the back of the book it gives a list of health problems and ailments which refers you to the juice/smoothie number; this makes it really easy to find the right one for you.
I can honestly say this has put my problem right. I make sure I have a smoothie every day.
Also there is a massive selection to choose from. I think you must read the section on the difference between a juice
and a smoothie - I did not know the answer until I bought this book.
I definately recommend this book!
