Barry ween is a series of comics about a boy genius, and the antics he gets up-to. This is to keep the rest of the world in the dark about this genius.

The story and art complement each other and are very funny. The book itself is very thick and a bargain for $ 12.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fall down funny 18 Mar. 2012
By Barry A. Hudson - Published on

This is probably the funniest group of short graphic novels ever written and inked. The genius is the author. I got one of the original books. Getting the complete Barry Ween for this price is an absolute steal. Unless you are without a sense of humor you should fall off your chair. Also, the graphics are great and deserve color, but that probably won't happen. The story line is quite deep and the characterization is great and memorable. Barry Ween is a great creation as a character and he grows through the series. He's a tragicomic figure who won't let you or his friends down even if he has to change the world and time to do the job.

BUY THIS BOOK! If you are a comics or graphic novel fan, your collection is not complete without Barry Ween, Boy Genius!
5.0 out of 5 stars Much more than fart jokes (but plenty of those too) 4 April 2016

I don't read a lot of funny comics (I know, it's weird). But Barry Ween is still high up on my list. It's hysterical and fun and touching when it should be. Not sure why this never jumped into animation or a movie but it's fantastic as a comic. What are you waiting for?
5.0 out of 5 stars Boy Genius, realizing how hard it will be to ... 29 Nov. 2015

Boy Genius, realizing how hard it will be to hang on to his humanity, and his sanity, he rolls the dice, surrounded by people who have as much in common with him as a super-smart, cyborg, saber tooth lion would have with a mouse.
5.0 out of 5 stars Funny, silly, unique 3 Jan. 2016

Barry Ween is a hilarious series. I loved it when the original comics came out and decided I wanted it all (again) in one book. It is highly recommended for anyone who likes comics, has a quirky sense of humor (think Stewie from Family Guy, but preceding most of that show), and wants a good laugh.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome! 21 Sept. 2013

A great collection of stories from a great writer.

I first encountered Judd Winick when I found Frumpy the Clown. I have enjoyed his work ever since. Frumpy had splashes of liberalism, but not so much that it detracted from the heartfelt connections of the characters or the overall well paced humor, but enough to be present. Read it!! Seriously!

Any-who, In this series, Barry Ween (a boy genius with a mind that can and does alter, not only the universe he lives in, but several other parallel worlds) is a success for me because he presents his biases or reasoning as fact; and since he is a genius living among the rabble of humanity his understanding of the human race typically falls on deaf ears. This causes some hilarious and cynical asides that come off as muddled and nonsensical ramblings to the other characters, and crisp, poignant analysis of the growth of humans to the reader. Moreover, a lot of the humor is juvenile which lines up Barry for hilarious, curse-riddled responses of pure exasperation. The dialogue is pretty damn close to reality as well. The characters seem as though they were written by intelligent young kids, which is part of what makes this so endearing. My friends and I spoke with the same amount of curse words as Barry and his "peers" if not more. This book is pretty cheap and a fast paced read that will make you laugh and still has time to show you Barry's weaknesses, and set up some very touching moments, not to mention some pretty awesome fight scenes, as well as fun and cartoonish artwork.

Overall A+,
Not recommended for young all, and as it was not designed for them in the first place this shouldn't be an issue.

If you are looking for intellectual reading for kids, any Calvin and Hobbes collection will do. But, if you are looking for a gift for your cynical high schooler, or college student who has already read Calvin and Hobbes (if they haven't you are a bad parent), Barry Ween is a perfect avenue for them to divert some of their precious angst.
