Product Description

Leonard and Sheldon are brilliant physicists, the kind of "beautiful minds" that understand how the universe works. But none of that genius helps them interact with people, especially women. All this begins to change when a free-spirited beauty named Penny moves in next door. Sheldon, Leonard's roommate, is quite content spending his nights playing Klingon Boggle with their socially dysfunctional friends, fellow Caltech scientists Wolowitz and Koothrappali. However, Leonard sees in Penny a whole new universe of possibilities... including love.

I am probably 'old' compared to most viewers of this series as I am over 50. However I do get it and find it to be extremely enjoyable. If Croft and Perry had written a series about uber geek scientists then I can imagine it would have been something like this. Most British viewers are sophisticated enough to transition between British SitCom's and US ones as there has been more and more quality comedy coming out of the States. The Big Bang Theory is at the top of the pile, the characters are believable and endearing. I am left wondering if Physicists are really like Sheldon? my eldest son who is a theoretical physicist at Manchester University assures me that most are not, but that does leave room for one or two who are in reality like Sheldon.

Most buying this set will be fans of the series, just finished its run on E4, however if you are new to it then you are in for a real treat. As much as I like many US comedies this is the first one I have ever thought worthy enough to buy. It now sits alongside my boxed sets of Dad's Army and Father Ted and it is not out of place.

Big Bang Theory - hilarious comedy. Both my wife and I can watch it over and over again and still laugh out loud. Particularly Sheldon who is such a great character yet we both have known/worked with people with his "special needs".
I don't think any of the jokes are too high brow, I am a physics graduate but my wife's not and she has found it just as funny, maybe more so as it was her request for the box-set. Maybe she sees similarities with Leonard/Penny and us................

Sheldon - neurotic, OCD, autistic, theoretical physicist shares a flat with his colleague Leonard when a gorgeous waitress called Penny moves in over the hall and Leonard is smitten. Their friends Howard, a female obsessed Jewish aerospace engineer, and Rajesh, an Indian Astrophysicist who cannot talk to women unless drunk, often are round for "Halo" nights and comic-book-store excursions.

There are many minor characters and in the later series Howard and Sheldon actually get partners and Rajesh's sister becomes pivotal.

This box set is great value for money as though the individual episodes are about 25 minutes long, there are a total of 87 episodes in this set! 17 in the first series, 24 in the second and 23 in the third and fourth.

Highly recommended - 5 stars, you'll love all the characters and sympathise with Penny!

Although I have a good sense of humour, it takes a lot to make me laugh out loud. I haven't finished watching all the discs in this DVD set yet, but I've already clocked up more belly laughs than I've ever had watching comedy programmes in the past.

Amid the nerdishness there is an endearing innocence in the characters as they grapple with the real world. Touching moments occur when they get it horrendously wrong and reveal their human frailties. There are some clever and immortal lines which will live on in our household. Big Bang Theory is wonderful medicine for the soul. It's probably good for lowering blood pressure too!

One of the best comedy's since everybody loves Raymond, I can't get enough, for once something that's actually funny while being smart at the same time, there's not alot I can say about it that's not already been said, but if you haven't seen it, its worth a watch even to just see Jim Parsons (Sheldon)the funniest man I have ever watched.

As an over 60 I find this comedy series provides me with a laugh, unlike many other supposedly comedic TV. The humour chimes well with an older person, highlighting many of the young persons fears and angsts. The play between the group and Sheldon is well played with the part of (normal) Penny bringing them all to earth. This brings back memories of my own young days.

I didn't stop smiling from begining to end. The later series have good DVD extras but the first 2 are somewhat lacking in this department. Now I just can't wait for Season 5 to be released! Until then...Soft Kitty, warm kitty, little ball of fur.......

I won't go into much detail about the show itself. But I think everyone can relate to this in some way, for me it's like Fawlty towers & Only fools and horses, not only do you have a genius as the lead (Sheldon is the lead/best actor in my opinion) but you have a fantastic cast as a whole. For me this ranks up there with these two as the greatest comedies ever written. Jim parsons is a once in a generation comic actor, he ranks up there with David Jason & John Cleese. I honestly didn't think I'd see anything modern comedy that could capture the hilarity of the old fashion comedies. May be silly comparing two very British comedies and an American, but I just think Big Bang appeals to everyone. FANTASTIC ***
