Product Description

BICYCLE DREAMS is one of the most celebrated cycling films of all time. Winner of 17 Film Festivals (Best Documentary at Grand Rapids Film Festival, Las Vegas Film Festival, Yosemite Film Festival, Red Rock Film Festival, Moscow Film Festival, Lake Arrowhead Film Festival, Breckenridge Film Festival, Los Angeles Sports Film Festival, and many more. BICYCLE DREAMS is the powerful true story of the Race Across America, a 3000-mile bicycle race that challenges riders to cross the country in just ten days. They must overcome searing desert heat, agonizing mountain climbs, and endless stretches of open road, all while battling extreme exhaustion and sleep deprivation. But what begins as the adventure of a lifetime is transformed in an instant when tragedy strikes the race. These voyagers discover what is truly at stake as they pedal on, praying for the deliverance only the finish line can bring. By journey's end, some are saved, others are lost, but all learn that the fuel that takes a soul toward its own true destiny is desire. Reviews have been magnificent: "An astonishing documentary. Bicycle Dreams is a ride of many stark contrasts; when it ended I felt both shattered and triumphant. I realized I was experiencing its genius." (Pez Cycling). "I imagine every cyclist who has seen this movie has ridden a little bit further or harder ever since." (Bike Rumor) "Bicycle Dreams captures the human condition like few other films. This movie is not for those who want to shy away from the tragic side of human experience. Bicycle Dreams moves us to break through the barrier of the fear of death. I have seldom found a film that captures this 'life drama' as powerfully as does Bicycle Dreams." (Cycling Review) "" This is a movie about conquering the status quo. It was a kick in the gut. By the end of the movie, I felt drained. Trampled. Ridden over. Spit out. This is not a movie about bikes. It's about ambition, and the fear most people have of it."(Drunk Cyclist)

Stephen and his film crew have been able to share with the world a glimpse into what a solo rider in the Race Across America put themselves through whilst competing in what is considered to be one of the toughest races on the planet. This film gets up close and personal with the riders & crew and looks at the highs and lows as the race unfolds across the 3,000 mile plus journey.
This is about as close as you can get to understanding the solo race without actually doing it yourself.

You don't have to be a cyclist to get something from this film, anyone who watches it will be inspired and blown away by the shocking truth of what a human being can achieve with the right mindset.

Amazing study of a set of people mostly men though there is a woman featured too, undertaking a brutal bike race across America. These are unusual people, they have very different backgrounds and different reasons for competing. Mostly they are competing against psychological and physical limits , rather than against each other. It does seem to be an addictive pattern for most of them, they come back year after year, for more pain. Fascinating stuff.

Bought this for my husband for xmas as he is a keen cyclist. He said he was inspired by the film and was totally not expecting how real life the experience would be. If your partner is into cycling it has to be a defo as a present

If ever a film embodied the obsessive, gruelling and self-challenging nature of endurance racing, this is it. Theres triumph and tragedy, blood, sweat and tears. All in all a true human story. The film follows participants in RAM (the Race Across America) a 3,000 odd mile endurance cycle race from the west to East coast of America. As well as focussing on the personal motivations of individual participants theres breathtaking camera work of the actual race in which you can actually feel the exhaustion and elation of the riders!!!!! Along with the film " 24 Solo ", this really does show you how hardcore these athaletes are as well s the physical, mental and emotional toll of the racing. Quit simply amazing. If you ever purchase a film on cycling make it this one. Check out Stephen Auerbach's other cycling film, " RAM " and keep an eye out for the forthcoming "Stay on the Bike."

Too many music cues.Too many different musical styles constantly bludgeoning my ear drums taking me out of whatever narrative may have been there. Did the composer even look at the pictures? Actually, did the director or editor bother either? Too many contributors. Very poorly structured, messy and incoherent film making at its worse. Should've been compelling. Even Nat Geo would've done a better job.

Really enjoyed the DVD It may not suit everyone's taste as it flips around a bit between the riders. Just to witness the effort that the riders put into this event was incredible. Although there was a warning at the beginning that the event included a tragedy I was rather stunned when it happened. No getting away from it that this had to be included but I now feel reticent to let my young grandchildren, who are very keen cyclists, watch the DVD

I was really looking forward to watching this every review raved about it and it has more awards than you can shake a stick at . Unfortunatly for me it just did'nt work .
It's very heavy going, and i get that it's more about finding yourself and the human spirit and all that, but there was nothing really about the bikes or riders ,preperation, back up teams, routes , scenery, how they keep the riders and bikes going or any of the stuff that i find intersting really .Also found the soundtrack rather annoying and there was a big black border all round the picture on my copy which was a bit irritating . Rather dissapointed as i really wanted to like it & obviously it works for many others .
At least it inspired me to get back out on my bike though ,just so i did'nt have to watch the rest of the film .
