I've just got back from spending a long weekend in Lyon and this was exactly the kind of guide I was looking for, not too much background, opinionated reviews, a good read and some nice photos too. Mike & Donna clearly know the destination very well, and their recommendations were pretty much spot on

We're going to Lyon for a few days later this year, and I have an irritating habit of reading up about holiday destinations in advance. This short guide certainly whetted my appetite and I've written down all sorts of places to visit, such as churches, markets and museums. The food sounds great, too, although some of our faddier friends might have problems. Unlike some of the more snooty guides, it includes a chapter on sport, not least Olympique Lyonnais and their stadium

The guide gives suggestions about nearby places to visit, such as Macon and Vienne. And St Etienne seems particularly interesting, not least the museums of mining and of modern art (and the football club).

I don't think that a Kindle book is 100% suitable as a travel guide (I'm thinking of accessibility, maps, etc.) but I'll certainly take it on my journey. It's well written, interesting, informative and good value.

Most guides to France can provide only a summary of what is there, and what lies beyond the confines of a city. So it is great to find one that gives more than a passing glance, and also suggests places to visit by giving you suggestions for day excursions. Written by one of Britain's and the US's most experienced writers. Great value for money.

I really struggled to find an up to date travel guide for a recent long weekend in Lyon - which is odd as it is France's second or third largest city. I really wanted to purchase a paper book, but opted for this Kindle version as this was the only recent guide which was available. The guide was comprehensive enough and I read parts of it before I travelled, but didn't want to walk round all day in Lyon with my Kindle, so the book was left at home. Had a paperback option been available I definitely would have purchased that instead, especially if pull-out maps had been included, as I much prefer to flick about the pages in a travel guide rather than fiddle about with a Kindle. It's not the same as reading a novel.
