This was brilliant, very believable with Kennedy surviving his assassination, Al-Qaeda, Reagan, Moon base, Mars base, intergalactic ships & time travel but at the end was a bit anti-climatic.

HASH(0x9ccdc54c) out of 5 stars History - What would happen if a few key events were changed? Loved this book! 24 Oct. 2012

This book shows different paths that American and world history could have taken. Author really held my interest all the way through. Some of the book centers around the space race. In addition the book covers space travel and colonizing the moon and beyond. When changes are made to affect the outcome of certain events, the books shows what would have happened if things were changed, and what things are fated to happen no matter what. Many important events in history are covered in this book. Everything is believable and I found myself wishing a lot of it happened like it does in the book.
Excellent story - I couldn't get enough. Stayed up 'til 3:30am to finish. I'll look for more books by Cliff Ball.

HASH(0x9ccdcf3c) out of 5 stars Quite a story! With Space craft and time traveling ,etc. ! 20 May 2015

I enjoyed your story, it was very long but was well worth the reading to know more about all that had happened during the time lines that you had chosen because my hubby and I did not have any tv available to us during this period of time as we were very busy sharing Jesus with the Mormons at this same time period. It does keep one's interest that the reader wants to continue reading it to find out just what will happen. I recommend this ebook for those who may have also been in a position as we were and were not able to know all what was going on at this time period. Or even those who are real history buff readers. Not for those who need a short easy to read ebook though and not for young children.
For all of these reasons and the fact of all the research study he must have had to do to write this ebook I am giving this ebook five stars. Great work Cliff! By Angela

HASH(0x9ccdc9d8) out of 5 stars Beyond the New Frontier by Cliff Ball 27 Nov. 2014

I just love Alternative History story because of the interesting story that comes out of it. It seem like what ever the human race does in the timeline it never goes well until countless times though the timeline. But I am telling the whole story. This is a recommended read if you are looking for something different to read .
HASH(0x9ccdcfcc) out of 5 stars Good imagination but flawed delivery 11 Mar. 2016

Its been 7 months since I read this book, so I will err on the generous side and give it 2 stars, since there was a bit or redeeming value in the plot, enough for me to read it to the end. I was a bit of a captive audience, this was for me a Kindle freebie and not my first choice to read (I had mistakenly checked in my paperbacks on a trans-Atlantic plane ride). I like the alternate history genre, and I wanted to give it the benefit of the doubt starting out, but that became harder to sustain the farther I got into it.

The book is full of clichees about liberal conspiracies to destroy America, and for me that ruined the suspension of disbelief. One can entertain (and more than that, find stimulating) speculative ideas like time travel, faster than light travel, certain alternate histories, but some aspects of this book strain credulity too far. Having a super-hero president like McBride is inconceivable in a country where presidential campaigns cost billions. Just like the other flat characters, McBride doesn’t undergo significant character development. As far as the strawmen presented as antagonists, the less said the better.

I do think it is good for people to exercise their creative imagination, and there is a certain consistency in this book’s universe. I would probably have given it more stars were I a young teen with little knowledge of the historical context. Last time I wrote any sci-fi fiction was in a creative writing class in high school, and though I got an A for it, and it was objectively worse than this.

So I would give it 2 stars for the effort and imagination, and making the story interesting enough and suspenseful enough for me to read to the end even though politically I am at the opposite end of the spectrum from the author.
HASH(0x9ccdcf78) out of 5 stars Almost a 5-star read! 22 Nov. 2015

I was fascinated by this authors ambition. The story was certainly entertaining however the pacing of the story was very fast. When I realized it wasn't going to slow down, I just decided to hang on and see where the author/story took me. It was a very fast read. I'd like to give it more stars because it actually was fun to read if not unbelievable at times. I would like a president like McBride. He had no fear of the unknown and was decisive and confident. Absolutely none of the other characters were memorable. The book was about the story and the characters were known by their role in history and not by what the author wrote. It would have worked if there had been a fully developed, strong character who was part of the story throughout most the book.
