Revenge: the action of inflicting hurt or harm on someone for an injury or wrong suffered at their hands.

That description is very true, this book is a story about a young woman, who is hell bent on revenge and it has ruled her life for the last two years. At seventeen years old Samantha is a broken young woman, suffering the devastating loss, she feels it all started at the hands of another.
Deciding that this person must pay, she changes her identity, making sure that her true self no longer exists. She is hell bent on seeing her plan through, but she doesn't count of that love can get in the way.

Luke, feels like he doesn't belong in his family and is so different from his brother. Loosing his mother at a young age, he has had to take care of himself, from a very young age.
I feel that he has closed himself off to people and is a very private person. He doesn't get close to people, that is until he meets her.

This was a very good read, and it shows that revenge shouldn't be the driving force within your life. Love is needed, and everyone deserves to be loved. Also you should never judge someone by the actions of others.

HASH(0x86e75c00) out of 5 stars Beyond Love Lies Deceit by Melissa Toppen was given to me ... 9 Feb. 2016
By Book Loving Fairy - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
Beyond Love Lies Deceit by Melissa Toppen was given to me in an ARC in exchanged for a honest review. I am giving this book 5 stars because this book was just so powerful. I mean wow this Author really helps you understand what happens when you wrong a person, and in this story the girl feels like just because your rich doesn't mean you should be able to get away with murder. Because that is exactly what happen to Samantha she feels like Ryan Scott took everything from her the day he decide to get in a car drunk with her brother in the car. But as she she is doing everything she could to achieve what she wants most which is justice for her brother and for her family. Because the day she lost her brother who she loved and adored so much, but she also lost her parents soon after his death. So Samantha simple wants to have a eye for an eye she wants Ryan and his father who help get him free of all charges to pay. She wants to destroy them and for people to see them for what they are which is monsters who think just cause they are rich they can do whatever they want and never have any consequences. But Samantha is also going to meet Luke Scott Ryan brother and his going to turn her world up side down. She knows she should hate him because he is a Scott but she also knows his nothing like his brother and father. She also knows that she has a strong connection to Luke. This book was just so good. And as the story continued it just got better and better. So if you have not read this book you should check it out. Because its going to blow your mind.

Samantha Cole was not who she said she was.
She lies and takes on a new name and profession to acquire pay back for the wrong done to her family.
She has worked two years to get to this spot.
She is applying for a job a Sco Tech to get close to Ryan Scott,
the man who destroyed her family.
She takes on the name of Alison Reynolds,
she was a young student who was killed two years before.
She applies for a job as finance assistant to Luke Scott.
She sees it as a chance to get close to Ryan.
Sometimes what we start to do doesn't end up quite like we planned.
Luke is attracted to Allie, but he doesn't want to act on it because she is an employee.
Ryan , on the other hand, uses women. He likes Allie and starts to take an interest in her.
This book contains some sex scenes and some violence,
so if you don'e like that this book is not for you.
I have to tell you though, I read this all in one sitting.
I couldn't put it down.
It grabbed my interest in the beginning and never left me go.
You will love this book, its a great read.

HASH(0x87ac906c) out of 5 stars A little disappointing... 16 Feb. 2016
By More Than Just Romance Reviews - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
I was really excited to read this book. I've read some of Melissa's early books and enjoyed them. I am a big fan of dark romance.

I was very disappointed.

I will admit I am judging this book a little harshly because the author is proclaimed "best-selling author" and because she has numerous published works under her belt. And because disappointment is a bitter pill.

The book started out slow, with everything laid out on the table in the first chapter. Why is Samantha / Allie angry, who Ryan and Luke are; there is no mystery here.

We meet Luke; he seems nice but pretty boring. Then Ryan is introduced. He actually seems a little more interesting, but so far all three characters are so static I don't know if I can continue reading. But I do, because I'm not a quitter. And I really enjoy Melissa's books. Normally.

More time is spent focusing on the fake relationship between Ryan, her enemy (although I never really get the feeling of hate from Samantha) and Samantha. Luke is kind of a side character that Samantha feels deeply for after a very short time of working for him, but we as readers never get to see the relationship develop AT ALL, and it feels completely forced. The only tension in the book is wondering whether she's going to keep pursing this only somewhat believable scheme for revenge, or actually get on with her life and pursue the supposed relationship she has with Luke (which I also did not find very believable).

The last few chapters were slightly more entertaining, although we go from boring and vanilla to some descriptive violence. But again, Ryan still comes out the more interesting character in the whole book, even though he's pretty run-of-the mill psychotic.

As a final note, I am not very critical about errors because I know it is tough AND expensive to produce a polished work; however, there were enough obvious and consistent errors in this book that I feel compelled to draw attention to them.

Overall, I was really disappointed in this book and if you're looking for a dark romance, keep looking. If you want a light romance, check out some of Melissa's earlier books, which I found much more entertaining and fit her style better than this attempt at going to the dark side.

HASH(0x881e641c) out of 5 stars Love or Revenge? 9 Feb. 2016
By Misty D - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
She is set out for nothing but revenge but never anticipated a road block in the form of love.

He knows something is lying beneath the surface when he looks at her, he just can't figure it out. Will he choose loyalty or love?

After a series of tragic events that leaves Samantha alone at the age of 17 she vows to get revenge on those that tore her family apart. She comes up with an elaborate plan and two years later she finds herself exactly where she needs to be, with a new identity, to see her plan come full circle. Only she didn't anticipate Luke, her boss. Instant attraction has her yearning for the one thing every woman wants, love. She now has to decided if revenge is worth the risk of losing the one person who has shown her she just may not be alone anymore.

Luke hires Sam/Allie to be his assistant. He tries his best to keep her away from his brother Ryan but what he doesn't know is Ryan is exactly who Sam wants. This doesn't sit well with Luke since he can tell a roll in the hay is not what exactly Sam wants although he can't quite figure out why. After a series of fairly scary events the secrets and truths are revealed leaving a family reeling.

This book had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. The story flows at just the right pace to keep a reader engaged the entire time and I hated putting the book down at times because it always seemed I was on the brink of some major event. The attraction between Sam and Luke oozed from the pages and you had no doubts that it was real, not just some fleeting feeling that would go away. Ryan was written to perfection that at one point in the story you had a hard time believing he was capable of the things Sam blamed him for.

I would definitely recommend this book to anyone looking for something to keep them guessing to the very end.

HASH(0x87f94138) out of 5 stars A Romance with LOTS of Suspense 1 Mar. 2016
By Roxane Leblanc - Published on Amazon.com

Since the very first book of Melissa's I read, she has drawn me in - I love her stories and this one is no different although it is very different from anything she has done before.

I am always anxious to get my hands on a new story by Melissa and I loved this Romantic Suspense. I wish Melissa could write as fast as I read!

I loved that this story kept me wondering a bit - I thought I knew what was happening but Melissa throws some twists in there to make me wonder. There is also the romantic love story that Melissa weaves in between the suspense which keeps you turning the pages.

I was shocked at the ending - the angst, the heartbreak, the betrayal. I couldn't put this book down from the second I started it and you wont want to put it down either.

Sam and Luke have an amazing connection, but Sam must fight against this in order to exact her revenge. This leaves Luke puzzled as he can feel that undeniable attraction as well. Can Sam manage to keep up her façade and deny her true feelings. One lie turns into two then three until the web is so large - no one knows the extent of the danger that lurks for Sam.

Sam's desire for revenge against the family and the man that she believed was responsible for the loss of her family clouds her senses but ultimately Luke sees through all the lies and betrayals to come to her rescue - but is it too late!

This story is definitely full of suspense with many twists, turns, and revelations - will Sam pay the ultimate price and also lose her life while fighting for revenge?
