McRobert's book is billed by the author as the authoritative text when it comes to all things weight training. In this respect it delivers. The topics McRobert covers are vast: he transitions from differing rep intensity techniques, nutrition, cycling weight programs, through to recovery methods and cardiovascular programs to supplement the goal of brawn. Centrally McRobert's book outlines the methods that one will need to understand and manipulate in their own training in order to succeed. He stresses individuality throughout and does not give many examples of his programs. This is a virtue. With this book you can gain mastery of programming weight training routines that will transform any trainee. McRobert's book is excellent and can take you right from the beginner level to an advanced one.

The book broadly splits into three sections. First he deals with the conventional methods of training. If you have been into a gym the image of a narcissistic pump artist will ring true and it is with this style of training that McRobert takes issue. Not on anything but a productivity level however. These traditional high frequency high volume sessions are practically and physically demanding and most galling, inefficient. He tells you what you will need in terms of both equipment and application and does not sugar coat the message. He aims to instil a positive attitude towards training.

The second part of the book is vastly impressive. I had been turned on to McRobert's methods out of interest many years ago. His emphasis on compound lifting is unexceptional. As I see it such an emphasis is the bare minimum in a worthwhile text. Anything else should set alarm bells ringing.

I have just finished this book, and can wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone interested in weightlifting, no matter what your age or level of experience. Although it is primarily aimed at the hardgainer, it is such thorough treatment of all things related to weight training--covering everything from proper stretching to good exercise form, proper nutrition and mental attitude--that everyone will find something useful in this book. The author's style is clear and vigorous; though he is clearly passionate about his subject, McRobert's writing is always practical and takes sensible account of ordinary, non-elite trainers who have to fit their training in around busy jobs and family lives. I thoroughly enjoyed this mighty book, and will certainly be reading it again soon, as there is so much in it that it will certainly reward multiple readings.

This is a great book and would have got 5 stars, the only problem I have with the book is the same things are talked about over and over. I dont need a book to go on all the time about something for me to get the point that its important.

When I first read this book I was struck by now similar my own path through the world of bodybuilding was with that experienced by Stuart. Oh how I wish I had this book twenty-five or even thirty years ago. It would have transformed my weightlifting/bodybuilding life. But I have to admit that back then I might not have listened to the wisdom in its pages. So brainwashed was I by the publicity and culture of lies which still swamp the sport today. My advice - everyone who is into any kind of weighttraining must read this book!

The author has published the same book and contents about 4 times. The bottom line of his advice is to train hard and keep it short. All the advice is available online and you do not need another book telling you to train sensibly and eat right. Tell us something New and "wow" or stop publishing repetitive material repetitively!

A lot of very useful info in this book about what works best in terms of training if your natural and especially if your an extremely hardgainer, but even though I am natural, Im not a hardgainer so some parts did seem a bit over exagerated for me personally
