I can't claim to be a hi-fi expert but have bought many pairs of in ear phones. This has been a frustrating process with so many pairs of Sennheisers, in particular, packing in quickly and not delivering the quality that their prices suggested they would. Whilst not a hi-fi enthusiast, being a listener to mainly classical material does make me especially conscious of the need to pick out individual details, voices and instruments.

I do own a pair of over ear Grado SR60s that I got at a knock down price: these are sensational. They're hardly discreet though so I needed an in ear alternative for MP3 player. I'm certainly not going to say that the Beyerdynamics beat the Grados but they have made a tremendous impression: my first move was to turn my mp3 player down substantially because these are very beefy in what they deliver. The detail and wide sound stage are impressive. Bass is powerful and trebles excellent too. As time has gone on this sound stage has become more spacious and richer.

My first move was to listen to demonstration class recordings but my big surprise was how well the Beyerdynamics dealt with older recordings. In particular an old 1950s mono recording, to date barely tolerable, suddenly sprung to life with a great amount of new detail appearing. It couldn't turn mono into stereo but this was still an incredible improvement. Recordings with limited microphones from, the 1960s now have a richer stereo sound stage than the rather basic - left or right ear only effect.

In terms of design they are lightweight but sturdy. The cables are thick and strong and my experience has been that they tangle far less than many other in ear phone cables do. This is important because tangling can lead to damage.

These earphones do not deserve to be branded "Beyerdynamic".

+Included pouch
+Sturdy cable
+Sound is clear and detailed, with the right ear-pieces

-My DTX101 iE earphones broke in 4 months! The right speaker just dropped out of its place, even though I had always stored them in the included pouch
-The included ear-pieces are rubbish, they are way too small to isolate any unwanted noises and do not play well with the actual earphones. I recommend buying sturdier, bigger ones
-Most of their products are made in Germany. The cheaper models, like these and almost all products under 100 euros, are made in China and it shows

Its kinda short but you get the idea, guess I could write here how these earphones changed my life and I became a Buddhist monk but I'll leave that to another review.

I bought a pair of these back in January to replace a set of Sennheiser CX300s as I had finally lost patience with buying a pair of those per year for one ear or another to lose volume or stop working all together. I was hoping that going for Beyerdynamic would bring better build quality at the least - more of which later.

Trying the new headphones out for the first time I was struck by a couple of things. The level of clarity and range that you get from the Beyers is excellent and far beyond the Sennheisers fairly bass heavy "tailored" sound. I tried the various rubber ear pieces, and although I was able to get a comfortable fit with that clear, dynamic sound, the phones seemed to me at least, a little bass light.

Following some additional research, I invested in some Comply Foam tips for the Beyers and this transformed the sound. The improved fit gave the phones a new lease of life in the low end, and they became a fantastically well balanced set of buds. If you are after mind altering levels of bass, do not look here. If you want a very well balanced sound with full, but balanced bass, these buds with Comply tips will impress.

Now the bad - just three months after purchase, my left ear bud has fallen in half which appears to be down to the fact that the phones are simply glued together as part of the maunufacturing process using what is clearly not a very robust cement. Going back through other reviews here, I note that others have had exactly the same issue. This is really a shame, given that Beyerdynamic's reputation for build(I have previously used their professional gear, wotking in the broadcast industry)is normally pretty good.

My son bought these after many hours of reading reviews and trying various far more expensive models by the likes of Bose, Dr Dre and Denon. Forget the price - buy these - they really are stunning. I'm at an age where in ear items don't really compute and I pamper my ears with over ear perfection but I have to tell you these are truly amazing whether you're listening to Mozart or Drum and Bass these earphones deliver exceptional sound.

Afer the What Hifi awards came out for 2013, I bought these Beyerdynamics - and they have blown me away! They are so comfortable to wear, do a great job of blocking out external noise and sound incredible. The excellent bass really warms the music up, creating a very smooth and balanced sound. The treble and mids are also very balanced and sweet sounding. I listen mostly to metal, and these really deliver my favourite music with punch and excitement.

Yeah, there is the cable noise which has been a factor of all the in-ear headsphones I've ever had. But if you loop the cables over your ears first, then this totally sorts it out, so you just get a great delivery of your tunes!

Very happy!
