Mobile Bluetooth Headphones that Adapt To Your Hearing
Only something excellent is worth making perfect. beyerdynamic naturally equipped the Aventho wireless headphones with the best modern acoustics available through the pioneering Tesla technology and high-end Bluetooth transmission. But beyerdynamic wanted to take the Aventho wireless to the next dimension.
What’s so special? They’ve integrated Mimi’s sound personalisation, to give the Aventho wireless the most personal sound experience yet. Through the beyerdynamic 'Make it yours' app – MIY app for short you can create your unique sound profile based on your individual hearing, and upload it to the headphones. Thanks to Mimi, the Aventho wireless are headphones that not only sound great, but also adapt to their user.
A New Headphones Era
For decades, beyerdynamic has fine-tuned the perfect sound. With their legendary Tesla technology, which has set highest standards. With exquisite materials. With precise workmanship in their online manufacture: Made in Germany. Now, beyerdynamic takes the next pioneering step – and personalise sound: for the first time, the new on-ear headphones Aventho wireless integrate the visionary sound personalisation by Mimi Hearing Technologies.
The MIY app
The 'Make it yours' app, MIY in short, allows you to create your personal sound personalisation according to your hearing and preferences. That means: you do your sound check and upload your individual sound profile to the Aventho wireless. The result does not only sound amazing but is also perfectly adjusted to you thanks to Mimi’s technology.
More features of the MIY App
In addition to dynamic sound personalisation, the MIY App offers two additional functions. As such, you can control the sensitivity of the touch pad of your Aventho wireless. Thanks to the tracking function, you can also learn a lot about your hearing habits: the app measures duration and intensity of your daily listening and shows how many percent of your daily quota you have already reached.
For easy handling of all personal features.
The Aventho wireless were awarded with the 'CES 2018 Innovation Award' by an independent jury of the Consumer Electronics Show. The specialist panel honoured the innovative sound personalisation of the headphones.
beyerdynamic and Mimi. The perfect match
At the very heart of the Aventho wireless is the technology from Mimi Hearing Technologies, which has already won multiple awards. The company is one of the most well-known specialists for sound personalisation worldwide. More than one million people have already used Mimi’s technology.

Here’s my opinion by feature
Sound - have patience, make a few EQ tweaks and burn in for 24hrs 5/5
Comfort - for me, good clamp, comfortable pads, nice sized on ears, not too small 5/5
Build quality - premium and so far very impressive 5/5
Touch control - mmm , most will stick to using device controls but I have mastered the swipe forward to skip track though 3/5
MIY - brilliant headphones rush released with a hearing test and personalisation app that is rubbish and does not work on the majority of android devices I’ve tried. Don’t get me wrong the concept is great and Beyerdynamic do state they will get this fixed but come on? For this price? 1/5
Price - Audiophile maybe, working as advertised no - these are worth £300 full stop. 3/5
My overall decision has been to keep them as they sound sublime with a good source. One day I hope to be able to complete the hearing profile and upload it to the headphones and if that happens I will update the review.
While I will be using them mainly from my Samsung note 8 the android software does not allow as yet for the custom sound setup. I set them up them initially on the iPad and it all seemed to work well. The software on the iPad seems quite robust although it did fail and disconnected from Bluetooth during the first audio customisation.
As I feel after a few days of listening. These rate very highly and sound even slightly better than the Sony 1000 v2 wireless Bluetooth headphones and the b&o h9. The two best I'll for sound quality and seem to support aptx hd although my note 8 reverts to aptx non hd for audible books and tidal. They are also very comfortable.
They do have no noise cancelling however so if you need that I would stick to Bose 35 or the new v2 Sony 1000 headphones.
These sound wonderful, as long as you're not a basshead. The low end, whilst not thin by any stretch, isn't over-exaggerated and sounds tight and well defined. The rest of the range is detailed and enjoyable, the Tesla drivers keeping up with complex and demanding music without ever sounding muddled. Soundstage is pretty much as you'd expect from closed back headphones, not expansive but there is clear separation between instruments and a good stereo image.
In terms of wireless headphones, I have listened to the Sony WH-1000XM2, Bose QuietComfort 35 II and own the B&W PX. The Aventho easily outclass the Bose and Sony. They are also more capable than the PX, which can sound a bit congested at times.
So why have I taken off a star? There are usability issues with the MIY app, and my giftee and I spent at least an hour or so trying and failing to set up the customised sound profile on an Android Oreo handset. We had to upgrade the headphones firmware via a Windows PC, set up the MIY sound profile on an iPhone 7 and once uploaded to the headphones it could then be controlled via the Android app. The single hardware button on the headphones is also very stiff. For the asking price, these issues shouldn't exist.
Probably the best portable Bluetooth headphones out there. However they’re overpriced and have a few niggles.
-Great build quality. They look great and are very comfortable.
-Sound quality is fantastic. At first I thought they were a little muddy on the vocals but I was just getting used to the warmer sound profile. After a few days I tried my old headphones again and they sounded horrible in comparison.
-Being able to customise a sound profile based on a hearing test is a great idea especially as I have some hearing damage. I’m yet to really test how much difference this makes to quality as when you enable/disable the feature the volume levels are different. Early reviews on the web suggest it does improve sound quality.
-The power button is really, really stiff. I have to apply about twice as much pressure as should be required when turning them off and on. How this got out of UAT is beyond me.
-Beyer cheaped out and only provide a cloth bag to store the headphones in. If I’m packing them in a rucksack then there’s little protection. A hard case is a must for headphones at this price point.
-There is a touchpad on the right can. This is fine for most controls but mastering volume control has a learning curve. Can be a bit laggy and I’ve accidentally maxed the volume out a couple of times. A tap at the top or bottom of the pad would be easier to control than the current swipe operation.
-I think the headphones are about £75 overpriced (currently £399). I guess Beyer will lower price after the earlier adopter period.
Overall I’m happy with my purchase as they sound great, look great and are built to last. It’s annoying that they got the complex things right but messed up some of the easy stuff. They were so nearly perfect.
