Paranormal novels seem to be my thing at the moment and I loved Between. A new take (to me anyway) on the guardian angel theme, I loved the two spirits with their own baggage and hopping between times. Each story pulled at me in their own different ways and kept me enthralled throughout. Looking forward to the next...

4.0 out of 5 stars Modern Gothic with a Twist 13 April 2015
By Susan Griffith - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase

By Clarrisa Johal

Between is a deliciously dark tale reminiscent of Barbara Michaels and Mary Stewart. Intriguing characters are blended with a wonderful sense of modern gothic to evoke a haunting landscape. You are introduced to Lucinda, a grieving woman who sees spirits after a horrifying accident immerses her in a deep-rooted mystery that spans history.

The reader is taken on a remarkable journey through the stages of grief, and the war it wages on those left behind. But the author manages to keep these characters from falling into the depths of despair, and instead, it becomes a story of the struggle to escape the mire of depression through a new life, close friends, and the belief in the impossible, even when forces around you seek to hold you back.

What I loved most were the engaging, believable characters and I enjoyed spending time with them. The author’s strength comes from her ability to create everyday, real characters facing impossible situations. Lucinda and Marny’s dialogue and emotions felt like your best friends sitting right next to you. You want to find out what happens to them.

Between deals with the limbo between grief and its recovery, between the past and the future, from the fear of hiding from the world and finding your new place in it. Amidst all those things comes an intriguing paranormal tale that takes you on an impossible journey and leaves you wondering.
5.0 out of 5 stars A fascinating, spooky read! 27 Dec. 2015

I enjoyed Between very much!

I really liked her pet Darwin and found the book enriched for the dog’s inclusion. I also found myself wanting to drop what else I was doing to find out what happened to poor ole Lucinda next, and not sure whether to root for Cronin or Lucas, or hate Cronin or Lucas. Why? I can’t tell you without spoiling the story.

All in all, Clarissa Johal did a fine job creating her intriguing characters and story. For a fascinating, spooky read, check out Between for yourself!

5.0 out of 5 stars Leaves you hanging 'til the last page! 28 Dec. 2012
By Mamma Baummer - Published on Amazon.com

Logistics: Ordering was easy. No different from downloading a simple app. I Downloaded to the kindle app on my smartphone. The e-book was easy to use, you could add notes, place bookmarks etc.

The Story: It starts off very simply, but purposefully. You quickly get a feel for the main character, her surroundings and her lifestyle. It teases you, making you think this will be a light read. Fear not! You will have a hard time putting this story down. As the plot unfolds, it's hard to imagine a satisfying resolution. By the last few chapters I was stumped as to how the author could possibly answer the remaining questions that hung in the balance. Well, she delivers above and beyond with drama and a little humor to boot. I fully recommend this book / format.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not a Typical Paranormal Romance 13 April 2013
By Elenora R. Sabin - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
Between, by Clarissa Johal, may be classified as a paranormal romance, but it is much more than that. It is not formulaic, and if you are looking for a highly erotic novel, it is not what you want. But if you are looking for a book with well-developed characters who grow and change in unexpected ways over the course of the novel and a book that is suspenseful and full of surprises, this novel will satisfy you. The title Between is apt, with characters caught between life and death, between running away from a shattering experience and accepting and learning from it, between past and present, between denial and acceptance, between what is possible and what is impossible, between shunning family and friends and finding a place among them. The characters and situations are memorable and will leave you pondering all the implications built into the plot long after you finish reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars Between! Perfect Title- Awesome Read! 15 Jan. 2013

I loved Clarissa Johal's first novel, Pradee (a YA fantasy) so I was excited to read Between. Good books are just hard to put down! I read Between in a day....but the concepts, the shadows and thoughts have lingered on, popping into my subconscious at times when I least expect...an aspect of books I love! Lucinda's journey sweeps you up like the tide and brings you back again, wondering if what you think is happening or what you want to happen actually will! Johal has a way of spinning a story in such a way that you "see" it playing out as you read. What a gift to be able to share with others! I cannot wait for the next book!
