Loved Sam, he also had kept himself away from everyone, after a bad breakup and finished cop career.
I enjoyed watching them deal with their demons and gravitate towards each other.
There is so much that I love about this book - the fact that they are both the 'quiet' ones, they love being at home and not at parties, they are not afraid of being romantic, I could go on. Anyone who has read any of my reviews knows that I am a complete slush-puppy where romance is concerned. If it is done well, then I love it. This hasn't just been done 'well', this is outstanding. None of it seemed forced, it was all completely natural between the two main characters. In fact, not just the romance, but the whole book, including interactions with their families and friends.
By the time I had finished reading this amazing book, I was a complete sappy mess but with the biggest smile on my face. This story flows, there is no other way to describe it. So well-written that you don't notice anything gaps or breaks to jar you from your reading.
I can't wait for Marcus' story but I think Zach will always be my favourite! Highly recommended.
* I received this book from the author in return for a fair and honest review. *
Archaeolibrarian - I Dig Good Books!
Zach is the geek of the trio, he is more interested in his computers, his work and staying in his basement at his Mom’s house rather than out on the town like his extrovert two best friends, Marcus and Julian. He gets riled continuously by his besties about his shy and introvert lifestyle. However with a weekend conference on the cards in Atlantic City, he is coerced into accepting a bet to throw caution to the wind and hook up with someone whilst he is there. When he sees the man at the bar who makes eye contact and talks to him, Zach takes it as his chance to pretend to be his hidden reckless self.
Sam Stein has been dragged to the conference by his best friend Henry. As an ex-cop he now helps Henry in his investigative business so felt obliged to accompany him on this trip. Recovering from a cheating ex over six months ago he has been coasting along with no interest in life or relationships. But then he sees the sexy guy at the bar and asks him out for dinner!
Both men are at a crossroads in their life and when they meet both feel something they haven’t had before. However after a night of passion and promises of more, things get mixed up and wrong assumptions made leaving them both thinking that was it and the last time they will see one another. Fate, however has a hand and they find themselves not only living near each other but with friends pushing them to take off where they left it. That isn’t to say it all goes smoothly and there is an angst filled ride the reader is taken on before these two sort themselves out and take a chance on each other.Read more ›
This is the second book in the series - and follows Zach's story. The first book deals with Julian's romance, and I would recommend that you read it first. Time-wise, this follows on, but it is a totally new pairing, so could be read alone too.
Whilst Julian's story dealt with some very big issues - here we get a much more personal story. Zach is not the quiet member of the trio that meet for breakfast without reason - even if his friends have never understood, or been given the chance to understand why he is so. But after an unexpectedly poignant one night stand, Zach is somehow hopeful, yet scared that there may be more in life for him. He is so outwardly successful, yet so lacking in self esteem. Sam, his Atlanta hook up, is confused too by the emotions that have resurfaced since meeting Zach.
As they fight their inner demons, face some of their fears and combust whenever together, these two men finally get that communication and trust can result in a much better future. Lovely, lovely read.
Now how will Ms Stevens turn the player Marcus around in the next installment? I, for one, cannot wait to find out!
