I wasn't 100% sure what you'd get with this game despite launch trailers etc, due to its development reset. But Doom is a brilliant FPS that does something modern ones don't.

Gameplay: 10/10
I can't fault the gameplay and design, it's made with the original in mind, fast brutal and hectic, on ultra violence difficulty you can't afford to stand still for a second, which helps keep the game flowing. You'll find yourself strafing left to right avoid imps fireballs, hell razers erratic blasts of energy beams and revenants missile barrages while you lock and and fire multiple missiles at the revenant, switch to heavy mg and fire a rack of missiles and blast it away with the standard mg. Switch to a plasma rifle and take at a group of scurrying imps before performing a glory kill on the last, using it's own leg to kill it.. (a good number of different and satisfying kill animations, they glow orange when able to execute the glory kill but I turned the color glow off for realism) And finally using the chainsaw on the hell razer to replenish ammo. Then a hell knight will come and stomp on your head, or a summoner (arch vile) from the original will confuse you, leaving trails of hell energy as they zap around firing arcs of fire at you.
Call of duty, Battlefield and co hold your hand as you follow another character and watch them perform cinematic actions. In this game you stand still and you're dead meat. But beyond the hectic combat and array of weapons/modifications to use or power ups and glory kills, there's a good amount of exploration and platforming too.

It's Doom! ITS A PROPER DOOM GAME, not the way the last ones were trying to be a 1st person horror/Dead Space mix. This is what we all loved about the original and the second Doom game, now rebooted and brought up to date. The multi-player is well, a bit meh, but you didn't come for that go check out Battlefield, COD or Overwatch, no pick this up because its fast, challenging and beautifully put together and incredibly satisfying to play!!!

See you in hell!

Blood, guts, madness, chaos and some more blood n guts (with the odd head/limb ripped off!)...mental fun ! I loved the old Doom (who didn't?) and it is fair to say it has been given a lick of paint for next gen but it retain the pace and anarchy, never going to win an award for best story but if you want a pick up/put down runaround gun n gore fest you couldn't do much better.

Hate to go against the grain but the power of the ps4 has been used to make more monsters they just keep coming and coming like some bad zombie game. Gone is the fear of what's round the next corner and every time you press a button they spawn all over the place so you just run round like a chicken with its head cut off. Then the worst part if I wanted to play crash bandicoot I would of bought it or a bad tomb raider when the jumps became stupid. You are forever climbing or jumping like sonic the hedgehog and if you miss time a jump you fall and die and have to go through the whole thing again climbing and climbing then comes the big jump oops you missed timed it and you die again and to make the climbing worst you even have things attacking you. Worst doom by a mile. But if you like jumping and climbing it's not easy as say in drakes progress it hit and miss. Plus only saves at check points. Played game nearly to the end on easiest setting but was unable to kill boss. What is it about easy that game developers don't understand for those that want it hard they can play hard as for me the story just as important as the gaming. So it's not finished and in the cupboard in fact not worth keeping so we trade it in. No replay value for me.

This definitely has a " doom is back " title to it when you play it. As said in my fallout review i trust bethesda on their capabilities and so ill buy their games without even knowing what they are. But i did play this one.. fault? I bought the dlc and it NEVER shows up in rotation for the multiplayer maps so probably not worth buying the dlc if your on a strict budget or dont like wasting cash

The credits on this great looking game are the best I have ever seen, very slick. The single player story is good and holds my interest, evil scientist unleashes demons using the Lazarus Wave, ensuing carnage awaits. And the game shines here with fluid fast combat, using the L trigger to lob a grenade, R trigger to fire my gun. Being mobbed all the time gets boring though, Sniper Elite this isn't, instead its a mad run around, jumping and spraying enemies with bullets, once they freeze and glow blue then run up to them and press R3 to get the glory kill, more health and ammo drops.

DOOM has been redone a load of times now on the PC and consoles, I would like some more improvement like an NPC you can tame a demon which would be very cool, having a Revenent or Mancubus by my side would be wicked. Graphically very smooth, feels less like walking and more like ice skating. Multiplayer should be a blast online as the level designs are intricate and 3D. Decent replayability to get the secrets and other bits and bobs, upgrading the power armour and weapons is fun, shotgun with explosive rounds is good :-)

Well worth buying if you like a fast paced shooter with a good sci-fi/occult theme and multiplayer capability. Lots of vlood and gore and demonic imagery so not for the young kids.
