The only frustrating thing is that I wish it came with better instructions; I'm learning things now and thinking "That's really important - I wish I knew that 2 weeks ago!" I'd recommend the book Vault Dweller's Guide by David Hodgson - around a tenner or so; I wish I'd bought it at the same time as the game.
I kind of wish Bethesda had cut back on the effing and Jeffing a bit; it's pretty uncalled-for when a raider shouts out calling you a 'Muddy Funster' (or the x-rated version of that). That makes it inappropriate for youngsters, with no real upside (although it can be amusing to hear Codsworth say "b*ggered off, eh?"). A very minor gripe in what is otherwise an enthralling game.
You could even play this game to its conclusion and go back to the start to try a completely different character and strategy; it would still be interesting. But you WILL lose sleep; there simply aren't enough hours in the day to have a life and do this game justice.
So I bought it. The games fun, but its really long and I still havent completed it and now whenever I go back and play it I find it hard to get into. Maybe in 6 months I'll go back and have more fun, but for now I'm not sure if I could last in a post-apocalyptic environment that encompasses the city of Boston and the surrounding Massachusetts region.
2 quick patches so far and my game is fine with no issues. 1 tip I picked up was to kit your settlers out with any gear or weapon you don't want and give them just 1 ammo for the gun, they then have unlimited ammo. Also give them and equip (triangle button) 1 grenade or molotov. It is great seeing them patrol your settlement lugging a minigun or missile launcher around :-D
So many side missions, all very good, favourite locations were Arcjet Systems for all the robots and synths, and Kendall Hospital with raiders and the deathclaw at the bottom.
The wasteland is rich and detailed with many interesting locations to discover as well as many disturbing monsters, raiders and robots to fight. Gunplay has been improved and vats is no longer the primary way to dispatch of feral ghouls and Death Claws! Combat feels more comfortable and it is a lot easier to use weapons without the vats system. Thats not to say vats isn't necessary, because it is espesially if you want to play tactically and it really helps when facing hordes of beasts or much larger enemies.
Story is interesting and the many side quests appeal. Fallout is a dark world and many quests give you a sense of wonder as you explore the wasteland further. I enjoyed the many interactions with the rich characters you meet.
Graphically there have been improvements. Personally I love the graphics style and I'm happy that it feels familiar to Fallout 3. There have been some complaints about character models and texture pop in etc but it really didn't bother me because I was so invested in the world that I found the graphics to be fine.
The soundtrack is again awesome carrying over many of the well known Fallout 3 songs and adding a few new ones, although I would have like to have seen another hour or two of new music added since you are going to put in 100's of hours.
Another neat new addition is the build mode, you are tasked with building a town, giving it power, lights, beds, furnishings etc. It's a nice little add on that you can lose hours in.
Overall I love Fallout 4. Because I am having so much fun with the game I'm barely noticing any issues with it, yes there's the odd glitch but nothing that has ruined gameplay or caused me to reload. I'm thoroughly enjoying it and highly recommend it to any fans of the previous games and new players too.
