However, for me it's let down by a writing style that I don't like, some rambling examples and a bit too much preaching. Hence the one star.
That's not to say that Caan hasn't got some good points to make, or that the novice can't pick up some good advice. It's just that this book probably isn't the place to get it. If you want to read what he has to say then I'd suggest browsing his website which I think you will get more out of for no cost.
A relative newcomer to Betfair I wanted to find out how exchanges worked. What do the numbers mean, what makes them react to stimuli?
With clear descriptions Caan gave me the grounding I yearned for and so much more besides.
He didn't dress up the fact that he'd made losses whilst trading; it was what he'd learned to counteract bad practices and limit this such as better decision making, learning various triggers and behaviours to avoid trap-doors and build good working practices and mindsets when beginning trading the markets. He goes into great depth to explain Exchanges versus Bookmakers and how the two operate.
He illustrates that luck is an illusion, he defines what an edge is and how to use it to make a profit in the markets.
Going in blind to trading is something Caan doesn't advocate and he can't stress enough to not start trading until you have read his book and have understood it fully that way you'll be more liable to stand on a solid foundation to achieve your goal as a newbie trader.
I’m a firm believer that the more you learn, the more you earn & there maybe something small that you didn’t know before reading this that could make the difference to making greater profit in the future.
With regard to sports betting (as opposed to trading), you name it and I've probably tried it as I'm sure many of you will have done also. I've spent many hours trawling the internet for information, followed countless systems and even devised my own systems. I've had a degree of success but with almost every success I've encountered a failure of some kind. Lack of discipline mainly, straying from the system, greed. Many of you will have been there too I'm sure!
Sports trading is different. Yes I've tried it but I suppose like many of you, I have never really fully appreciated what it was about or understood it. I've had a few wins but also a few losses and concluded I was no good at it. One big problem being that there has always been plenty of information out there on the internet but it has tended to focus on how to use the trading software rather than what we are to trade on, what to look for, types of trading, using key bits of information and knowledge to your advantage etc. Finding an edge! This and many other aspects is where this book can help or at least point us in the right direction.
Although Caan's book is entitled "Betfair Trading Made Simple" don't be fooled into thinking that this is exclusively for those with no knowledge whatsoever. I would suggest it is also a "must read" for those with some knowledge but not 100% certain how to trade the sports markets. But I would also add that I would consider it a must read for any of you out there with an interest purely in sports betting (as opposed to trading) as a means of an additional income. Some food for thought in there!!
In a nutshell this is a very interesting read and is written in an open, straight talking and honest way which would appear to be Caan's style. He's been there and made the mistakes and this book is intended to help those, like me, who are trying to find their way.
The art of Betfair Trading is extremely complex and not for the feint hearted yet this book manages to cut through all of that and give you the skills and knowledge to make great inroads.
I could not put this book down and still can't.
My Career has got off to a slow start for sure but without this book it would not have gone anywhere.
Caan is also a thoroughly decent guy and a proper champion for the trading/betting world.
I say again just buy this book don't bother with any of the others
So, of course, I bought the book and read it in a day. Though aimed at more novice traders, or beginners, there is a lot to take from the book that is useful for all levels of traders.
I moved on to Forex and Caan's constant reminders on mindset has served me well for the challenging process of trading currencies.
The book made me want to tap back into pre race trading, which I have done successfully for a few days.
This has to be one of the best guides for pre race trading and I would recommend it to anyone interested in learning. All of Caan's content represent great value and a wealth of fantastic information.
