They pull it off, though. All this seedy, sexy, tango-ish over-the-top melancholia actually works. Just about every song on this CD is instantly recognisable. The sound is latino-inspired, but filtered through the chanson-tradition of the group's native Belgium. This best-of album spans two decades, from their first hit, jazzy "I Don't Want To Know" (mid-eighties) to big belter "Evening of Love" (early nineties). Once or twice, the CD strays dangerously close to power-ballads, but mostly it's an irresistible mix of flamenco, rock'n'roll, blues and jazz, which should be in the jukebox of every self-respecting joint.
As a devotee, I have advised them after listening to it twice, they will be completely hooked....haunting voice and fabulous arrangements which transport one into the smokey bars and jazz clubs of Europe.
While at my local gym, I heard a remix of one of her songs on this album - it spurred me into action and finally buy her CD.
I am not disappointed.
