Sung with a deep and melodramatic voice, these tracks have an unmistakable feel of cabaret about them - but in a cool, Edith Piaf/Jacques Brel sort of way. Doleful accordions weep in the background as Dani Klein's alto tells tales of bad men and desperate love, and you can imagine nighthawks slouching over their absinthe in, as one track specifies, "a sleazy part of town". Very Edward Hopper.
They pull it off, though. All this seedy, sexy, tango-ish over-the-top melancholia actually works. Just about every song on this CD is instantly recognisable. The sound is latino-inspired, but filtered through the chanson-tradition of the group's native Belgium. This best-of album spans two decades, from their first hit, jazzy "I Don't Want To Know" (mid-eighties) to big belter "Evening of Love" (early nineties). Once or twice, the CD strays dangerously close to power-ballads, but mostly it's an irresistible mix of flamenco, rock'n'roll, blues and jazz, which should be in the jukebox of every self-respecting joint.

This album takes you from smoky Parisienne bars to downtown Havanna via the savannahs of Africa. This lady's voice will haunt you with it's dusky quality. I can't fault this album - and nor can any of my friends!

This is certanly one of the best belgian groups ever. A mix of easy listening with a dash of caribean at times and some hot saxofoon and lyrics sung by a sensual voice. This album has the best songs collected. All in all, worth every cent (or penny)

I bought this after after listening to the German internet radion station 1000oldies.de. Their playlist included songs that I had never heard before, but liked, by, the then unknown to me, Vaya Con Dios. This album, which incidentally shipped from France, did not disappoint me in the least.

You don't need to have an understanding of French to appreciate the quality of this album - if you like their way of life it is enough. From the haunting first track 'Don't cry for Louis' which conjures up images of rainy French streets and smoky bars, through to the more upbeat 'Johnny' this album has something for everyone. It wanes a little toward the end - the songs have less substance, but if you are after a reminisce of time spent in France, then this is the album for you.

This album is being bought as a gift to introduce Vaya Con Dios to friends.

As a devotee, I have advised them after listening to it twice, they will be completely hooked....haunting voice and fabulous arrangements which transport one into the smokey bars and jazz clubs of Europe.

After first hearing Vaya while on summer holidays in New Jersey in 1999, I have wanted to listen to her ever since, but never got round to buying her music!
While at my local gym, I heard a remix of one of her songs on this album - it spurred me into action and finally buy her CD.
I am not disappointed.
