I read in the Guitarist Magazine the other day that they had printed a list of the "Top Ten guitar solos". According to the readership who responded. For some very strange reason in that top ten, not even at no1- did they have the entry for Uli Jon Roth's solo that raises the track " I'll Be There " to the stratosphere as regards BRILLIANT guitar soloing. Easily a contender if not the actual No 1! Incredible stuff fills the rest of this collection with top notch guitar! Some great songs. The readership of the magazine's guitar solo experience must be somewhat lacking! Check this guy out.

first 'noticed' roth via his excellent scorpions work on 'tokyo tapes' , 'fly to the rainbow' , 'in trance' ; so thought I,d be getting more of same with this 'best of' - unfortunately have been REALLY disappointed in this expectation with this purchase ; on disc one his guitar-work is set to 'orchestral' mode and is FAR from outstanding ; on disc two there is Nothing like the heights of 'Fly to the Rainbow' etc!!

Ah, Uli Jon Roth, one of those mad as a hatter coves who make life all the more interesting just by being around. Of course, like all hippies, a good slap now and then wouldn't go amiss.

But here we go with a double CD best of from SPV who've been busy rereleasing his solo albums of late. Now it's a definitive best of - it doesn't delve back into The Scorpions era - but as a summation of what he's been up to since 1978, it does a good job.

The thirty one tracks spread across the two CDs give ample space to his Electric Sun days and to his neo-classical flights of fancy, with some room left over for a sample of his Legends Of Rock venture.

Much as I enjoyed this, I'm not sure who it's aimed at. There's nothing fans don't have and 2 CDs might be a bit daunting for newbies. But take a chance, dive on in, then try "Metamorphosis Of The Seasons". Genius.
