Chuck Leavell is possibly best known for his work with the Rolling Stones, having been drafted in as a keyboard player. In this sense then he is best known for work which is well below his own standards, Keef doesn't want the keys to dominate after all.

So what are Chuck Leavells standards like? Very high indeed! Ths guy can play any style of music with a flair that is hard to match to the work he doesn in the Stones. Think Little Feat/Steely Dan/Dr John and you are getting some idea of the type of music contained in this gem of a compilation.

The rest of the band are no slouches either. They can whip up the New Orleans funk at the drop of a hat.

So, overall a great musical journey through the southern states of the US played by a top notch outfit. I am glad that I chased them up following a writeup on one of the threads in the Rock Forum here on Amazon.

This is an excellent recording if you are into the Allman Bros. style of US rock. I heard Chuck Levell, on the Paul Jones R2 show and his music and ability was like an oasis in the Desert. His influence on the Allmans is obvious and the rest of the band have produced a superb recording was seems to have been seriously overlooked.
Very highly recommended.

After watching a cracking couple of programmes on Beeb 4 about Southern US Rock I decided to explore Sea Level. They had pretty much passed me by in the 70s but the pedigree, particularly The Allmans, suggested it might be worth a punt.

This is quality stuff, oozing tight musicianship with timeless tunes.

If the genre turns you on you won't go far wrong with this.
