Never Mind the Buzzcocks host Simon Amstell and team captain Phill Jupitus have a rare out of hours get together to look back at some exclusive, never-before-aired, deleted material from the last 3 series. This Exclusive DVD Featurette includes clips ranging from the too rude, too drunk, too nasty, too sweary, too awkward and in absolutely no instances too funny for TV.
Also featured on this ‘Best of’ DVD are compilation special episodes from the last three series presented by Simon Amstell (2007-2009):
Never Mind the Buzzcocks - Technically, the Best Series Ever. A thrilling look back at what were technically some excellent moments from the last series. Featuring a galaxy of technically good celebrity bookings and many, many technically funny sentences. Yes!
Never Mind The Buzzcocks – A Moving Tribute. A touching retrospective on Never Mind the Buzzcocks.
Never Mind The Buzzcocks… Imagine a mildly amusing panel show. Alan Yentob takes a look back at the most talked about moments from the series, including Amy Winehouse spitting, Preston walking and Lilly Allen controversially wearing funny glasses.

As for unseen footage, there is roughly 45 minutes of it. Some of it makes for pleasant viewing - mostly thanks to the (compulsory) commentary from Amstell and Phil Jupitus - but Buzzcocks have always been a show that works best when viewed in full so I think it'd have worked better if some complete shows had been included (the ones with Anthony Costa, Lee Ryan or Midge Ure for instance). I was also hoping that the never-aired Russell Brand episode would be included here. It is not.
These days, you don't want to buy a fully priced DVD and only get 45 minutes of new material for your hard-earned money. It's especially disappointing since there was obviouly plenty of material to choose from.
You can tell that the show is very funny (I've never seen a complete episode). But the DVD seems to hide this well. Although the DVD whets your appetite to see a complete show it doesn't contain any complete shows, and is otherwise of very little value except perhaps to those who already have seen a lot of shows and want a quickie trip through memory lane or to see some deleted bits and bleeps they didn't see on broadcast. As a fan myself of other similar shows, I can tell right away that this show is a lot funnier if seen as a complete whole (e.g. whole episodes). It is also a disservice to the guests depicted in the DVD tracks that they aren't necessarily individually identified (for those who do not know who they are just by recognizing them). At the end of each compilation clip is a list of guest names, at least, although I noticed that even this isn't necessarily comprehensive. But if you are trying to identify a guest, try looking at the credits from other DVD tracks they might have appeared on as well.
I guess that for the purpose of my determining if I like this show or not and would want to see more, this DVD satisfied my curiosity, but boy this particular DVD is mostly empty calories. I hope that many more DVDs will come out in the future, and in a comprehensive fashion, for this show and others like it such as Mock the Week, Eight and a Half Cats, and QI.

Not the best compilation they could have made by a long way but still funnyPublished 6 months ago by Patch
There is a reason much of this content was never put in the original broadcast and adding commentary over the top doesn't make it any better. Read morePublished 21 months ago by krcb197
