Having just purchased Totally James Bond: The Essential 007 Themes, I was horrified to find that every track was a crappy cover version rather than the original theme played during the track.

I immediately got this CD out of my closet and enjoyed the James Bond as it was meant to sound! I would recommend this CD above all other ones of its type, even if it does lack the tracks for Goldeneye onwards.

With the advent of the latest Best of Bond CD, this collection would seem to be obsolete to the untrained eye. Not so! This, the defninitive Bond CD (pre Pierce Brosnan)which contains all the main songs from the films; and in addition to this, such other musts as Mr. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang( at one point the planned title song for Thunderball), and the infamous 007 theme with its wonderful timpani drums! Although new fans of the Bond phenomenon may flock to alternative more recent collections, I urge any serious Bond fan to buy this album and then buy the three new sountracks seperately (as they are all brilliant).Buy it, NOW,ITS BOND . . .AND BEYOND!

I bought this years ago when it first came out and to this day I still think it's the definitive Bond CD to buy, simply because after License to kill, all the James Bond songs have been terrible right up to Casino Royale, none of them are any good, just copying a formula of what they think a bond theme should sound like. If you are a fan you'll likely have all the latest songs on their DVD's anyway, but to listen to for listening pleasure alone, all the tracks you could want are right here, enjoy!

Although this unique collection is expensive, it's the best. The first disc has the usual songs from the first 16 "official" James Bond films (this double album was released in 1992), but the second disc is rather more interesting. In addition to the John Barry Orchestra version of the James Bond Theme and the original recording of 007, it includes a very different interpretation of Goldfinger by Anthony Newley, the four tracks missing from the Goldfinger CD and both versions of the excellent song, Mr. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. The highlight, however, is a 21-minute suite from Thunderball with music not included on the Thunderball soundtrack. One small complaint is that while both the main title and We Have All The Time In The World from On Her Majesty's Secret Service are included, the From Russia With Love main title is not. But with excellent sound and presentation this is a superb production: if you can afford..[the price], I recommend that you get it while you still can.

This is probably the best James Bond Music and Song compilation ever. Produced in 1992 for the 30th Anniversary of 007 on the big screen this is a fantastic 2CD set which although minus the songs from the Brosnan era it certainly marks a milestone in the film career of James Bond.
So you may have already bought one (or in my case a number) of James Bond Compilations for you listening pleasure and effectively Disc 1 is just that but in the instance the care has been taken to place each song in the correct chronological order. The real prize is to be had from Disc 2!
Disc 2 kicks off in fine style with a rousing rendition of "The James Bond Theme" by The John Barry Orchestra quick followed by the secondary bond theme "007" as featured in From Russia With Love, Thunderball, You Only Live Twice, Diamonds Are Forever and Moonraker. Although each time it is reprised it gets progressively slower.
The real rarities now come to the fore with a rare demo version of Goldfinger sung by the lyricist Anthony Newley. Imagine a lounge singer performing Shirley Basseys calling card song in a smoke filled room and only an a Drum, Guitar and Double Bass combo behind he - it is a real gem.
Tracks 4 through to 7 are again rare in that they have never been released in this form anywhere else. These are the original recordings from the soundtrack of Goldfinger which never made it on to the album due to space on the LP or just time constraint. They are pure Barry at his best with soaring string, warm horns and soothing melodies which hit all the right notes. These original recording from 1964 of Pussy Galore's Flying Circus, Golden Girl, Death of Tilley and The Laser Beam are to be found no where else. Other performances are available but the original movie score can only be found here.

I'm rather pleased with this 19-track collections of tunes - despite not exactly being a fan of the James Bond films. I mean, if I were, I would presumably have bought at least the cassette of this when it was first released, way back in 1992. And I would probably have watched at least one of the James Bond films made since that time. So, no: I'm not a Bond fan. But I do know a decent tune when I hear it.

I only bought this originally for one song: I simply wanted a copy of 'Nobody Does It Better', that was all. It's a beautifully orchestrated piece of music. And the lyrics are second to none. I could, of course, have sent for Carly Simon's Greatest Hits or whatever... but it would take a braver man than me to buy a whole CD with nothing but her voice on it.

I will now be able to play that song - in VERY small doses - as I prepare for an evening of romance with a woman (however rare such an occurrence may be these days). Ms Simon can massage my ego while I'm standing there, admiring my naked form in the mirror, working on my Roger Moore eyebrow and wondering whether it might be worth giving Q a ring, to see whether he has something a little more impressive for me in the 'secret weapon' department.

Mind you, if I can't handle Carly Simon's singing voice, I don't know how I expect to be able to cope with viewing an image like THAT.

When I'm not using this disc to traumatise myself beyond all measure then, I can enjoy some truly classic Bond music. I haven't figured out why these tunes are all jumbled up here, chronologically speaking, but there are extensive - and very interesting - sleeve notes that give the story behind each individual Bond film and its music, and the films appear in the correct order there.
