This story was sizzling hot!

I didn’t read the blurb before I read the story – just looked at the title and thought I’d know what it was all about. However, it turned out to be much more than I expected.

Ashley is a journalist and wants to do a piece on the BDSM lifestyle. A friend of hers organises an interview with Dare for her. Dare used to be the stepfather of a best friend, who disappeared out of her life some years ago.

Dare is a successful and rich businessman, and a Dominant. He is ten years older than Ash. Ash always found him intimidating and fascinating.

Adam has been Ashley’s friend for years. He was her older brother’s best friend, now he is her boss. They have had a mutual crush for years.

Ashley’s association with Dare sets the wheels in motion for an erotic relationship and the uncovering of past secrets, and a surprising turn of events in the story, which I didn’t expect.

There were some incredibly sexy scenes. I’ll be honest and say that I found Ashley a little bit difficult to connect with – I thought the guys had more depth. She wasn’t unlikeable, as such, - she was spoilt for choice between the two men and I couldn’t really understand her initial decision of who to stick with (sorry, I can’t go into more detail about my reasoning without giving spoilers!). The ending was neat and happy (although I can’t imagine it would be completely plain sailing, due to the characters involved). I think this novel has potential for a good angst-ridden sequel dealing with the problems and fallout of the HEA/HFN ending.

HASH(0x94b94bf4) out of 5 stars good stort, great sex but a little too predictable 13 Jan. 2016
By Jennifer Schaber - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
Ash is a young journalist wanting do do an article for the magazine about BDSM by interviewing a Dom. Enter Dare - her high school friend's (Helen) former stepfather. Rather than an actual interview, he just starts behaving as if she is his submissive so that she can experience it for herself. Her boss (Adam) at the magazine has wanted Ash since they met. He was her older brother's best friend at that time, but is now hers. Adam has considered multiple times to act on his desires, but wasn't sure if the feelings would be reciprocated and opted to keep his friend. We know early on that Adam and Dare had interactions in the past through an internship and as the book progresses, we learn of the depth of their past friendship. I was actually a bit surprised at the ending, but only in regards to Helen's antics.
What I liked: *Ash's conflict in regards to her feelings for both Dare and Adam. She may not have handled it like most people, but she was honest with both men. *The long term friendship between Ash and Adam made me smile on more than one occasion. *Ash has a great BFF in Jessica. Every woman needs a Jess in her life. *Let me just say that Opal can write a sex scene like no one else.
What I didn't like: *For much of the book, Adam came off as being a bit weak when it came to Ash. *Dare (despite his age and experience) had the Dom voice ( I swear that I could hear it in my head.), but I didn't FEEL like he was as much of a Dom as he was eluded to be. *Helen...yeah - just NO! Even for a book, she was just a little too far out there for me.
I'm glad that all three parts were in one book. I'm not sure that the ending of each part was enticing enough for me to want to pick up the next. The story and the writing were good, it was just a little too predictable for me.

HASH(0x94b94c48) out of 5 stars Scorching Hot Read! 13 Jan. 2016
By AmberJohnson - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
Ashley works as a reporter at a magazine where her best friend Adam is her boss. Ashley and Adam have been circling their attraction neither really ready to make the first move. When Ashley gets her shot at a lead article and decides she wants it to be about BDSM which she knows nothing about. A friend tells her about someone that could probably help her. It just happens to be the stepfather of an old school friend. A man she was attracted to when she was a teenager and she was sure shared the same feelings. When she meets Dare again after so many years she nervous not just because of the subject of her article but because she knows the attracted for him never went away. Dare is surprised to hear from Ashley but can't help but wonder where researching her article will lead them.

Dare agrees to help Ashley but has some conditions the research is hands on and she can refuse whenever she wants. But to learn about BDSM he feels you need to experience it rather than be told about it. During their time together Ashley and Dare grow closer even though Dare claims to only want to be involved for the month he is there. Ashley becomes torn because she loves both Adam and Dare and doesn't think she can have them both. She feels Adam is the safer choice because of their friendship but with Dare she experiences things she never thought of before. What she doesn't know is that Adam and Dare have a secret of their own.

This was an amazing story I really enjoyed it. I felt Adam came off the weaker between the two male characters in some spots it worked. However Dare was more dominate so and Ashley needed that aspect in her life. Ashley needed something both men could give her so it worked really well in this story. This is by far the best book I've read this year so its my five star read. I recommend this to any book lover.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review for Stephanie's Book Reports

My Best Friends Stepfather by Opal Carew was originally published as three novellas. In this book you get the complete story of Ashely, Adam, and Dare.

Ashley is working for one of her best friends Adam on a magazine. She young, beautiful, and full of life. Ashley has come up with a special interest piece for the magazine. Her research involving a Dom who is going to explain the lifestyle to her. Ashley also is carrying around a pretty intense crush on Adam, her boss and best friend. Will she and Adam ever become a couple or will the Dom fall for Ashely as well?

Adam. Ashley's best friend and boss at the magazine. He's had a crush on Ashely since the first time he saw her when he was in his twenties and she was sixteen. Adam is also Ashely's brothers best friend. Adam is successful and serious about the magazine and hasn't really been in a relationship since college when his heart was shattered. His heartbreak is something he never has explained to Ashely. He doesn't talk about it ever. Can he and Ashely get pat that major obstacle and be happy together and build a future?

Dare. A serious millionaire business man in town for several months before returning to New York. An exceptional Dom, he has agreed to help Ashley with her special interest piece for the magazine. He knows Ashley well as she spent many hours with his stepdaughter Helen at his house. Dare, however is no longer married to Helens mother and therefore technically not her stepfather anymore. He does however feel sorry for and responsible for Helens well being as she has been abandoned by everyone. When he sees Ashley again the attraction between the two is instantaneous. Will Ashely fall for Dare and if so would a relationship even be possible?

What happens when you fall in love with two men at the same time for totally different reasons? Could you pick between two men you loved? What will Ashley do.

I really loved this story. All three of the main characters Ashely, Adam, and Dare are all well developed throughout the book. It's written in a way that you get to read from all three points of view. I love when a book has multiples points of view and is written in a way that not confusing to the readers. Opal Carew does an excellent job with this aspect of the book. The story has twists and turns and secrets I never saw coming and I also enjoy a book that keeps me on my toes. It's a story about love, loss, regrets, and healing. I loved every second of this book and am actually going to miss Ashley, Adam, and Dare. They were such fun character to get to spend time with.

One of the lines which drew an awestruck expression on my face. Well, actually our heroine faints twice in this very entertaining story that had my inner bad girl sitting up and paying attention. I just can’t recall anyone passing out after an orgasm. But don’t get me wrong, My Best Friend’s Stepfather is an erotic romance and I knew what to expect. This book is presented in three parts and I was fortunate to read them together; so glad because the story revealed intriguing secrets along the way, and the heat level was ratcheted, way up, with each part.

My Best Friend’s Stepfather is a triangle of main characters who have a connected history of sorts. Ashley works at the magazine her brother’s best friend, Adam Rawlins, hires as a journalist. Ashley’s always had a crush on Adam, and he feels the attraction, too. But as close friends, they don’t act on it since Adam feels it inappropriate to date her because of the barriers between them, like, him being her boss and the age difference.

So, in pursuit of a special-interest piece that would talk about the popularity of BDSM in romance novels, Ashley needs to interview a real-life “Christian Grey” in her research. Her friend, Jessica, finds through her connections an active Dom in the community. What Ashley didn’t expect was her adolescent wet dream, her best friend’s stepfather, Darien Gallagher.
No worries about any taboo hanky panky. Our ever-so-hot stepfather has been divorced for a few years from her best friend Helen’s mother. Dare is ten years older than Ashley, but he’s still gorgeous, an unabashedly alpha male who exudes confidence and control. And Ashley is in danger of losing her control, and perspective, when it comes to Dare. He convinces Ashley to become his submissive as she needs to experience the Dom-sub relationship directly for an effective article.

Adam becomes jealous when he finds out the Dom is Dare Gallagher, as their paths have crossed in the past. Ashley is torn between Adam and Dare, but refuses to give up. She’s exhilarated by awakened desires whenever she’s with Dare, but wants Adam, too. Throw in an alcoholic step-daughter, an old best friend into the picture, and the plot goes bananas. There are a few twists in the story that had me shaking my head, but I could not help being glued to my kindle.

Ms. Carew does not disappoint in delivering the hot, steaminess her fans expect in her stories. My Best Friend’s Stepfather had lots of imaginative sex, story, and plot twists, and very light BDSM elements. I loved the ending to this story and my inner romantic girly was very satisfied. Nice job, Ms. Carew.

My Review:
I don't even know where to start this review. Up front, I was not a fan of this book. There were moments during reading it that it had hope and it was those moments that kept me reading even as I considered DNF'ing it. In the end, I read it all and then wished that I really hadn't wasted my time.

So, first, what I did like:
* this is an erotic romance and the sex is hot. There is lots of sex in this book and every scene is pretty darn good. Note: this is considered a BDSM book, but personally, that was a negative to the book. The BDSM consists just of the Dom ordering the sub around (i.e. suck his cock or bend over) and some light spanking. Definitely NOT erotic level BDSM. But even with that, the sex scenes were good and steamy. The author writes good sexual chemistry.
* I liked the back story between Adam and Dare and was really intrigued by that. I just wish it had been taken deeper because there was some good emotional conflict possibilities there that weren't fully realized.

And that brings us to what I didn't like:
* Ugh...Ash. Throughout so much of this book it felt like she was jerking both these guys around with her wishy washy emotions. There's a way to do menage without the heroine being weak. This was not that book. This heroine was spoiled in that she wanted it all and didn't want to give up anything, even if it meant hurting the heroes. That, I couldn't respect.
*Helen should not have even been in this book. She's brought in to intensify the conflict, but all she did was weaken the storyline. She's a manipulative shrew and I couldn't respect Dare because he let her get away with it...and why? Because she was his step-daughter years and years ago. It didn't compute. He's supposed to be this big, bad Dom, but he lets his ex-step-daughter walk all over and manipulate him.
*The ending. I was thrilled with the way the ending was setting up, but then the author again brought Helen into the mix and set it up so that these people would always have to deal with her manipulative nature. Why? Why? WHY? WTF? Am I the only one that felt like screaming and throwing my kindle at this point? I just don't get the author's reasoning here. No, just no.

So, yeah, I really can't recommend this one. This was the first book I've read by this author, although I do have a couple of other books of hers in my TBR pile. I've heard she's really good, but this book just didn't work for me on so many levels. I'm hoping it was just an off book for her, but it may be that this just isn't an author for me.

I received a complimentary copy of this book in return for an honest review.
