Format: Audio CD
This underrated Scottish singer/songwriter should have achieved much greater success. As it stands, he had one massive UK hit in 1978 in the form of the moving ballad Darlin', and two minor hits with Be Good To Yourself and Caledonia. But this Best Of provides sheer joy in songs like Highlife/Brickyard Blues and Shoo Rah Shoo Rah from 1974's High Life album, both written and produced by Allen Toussaint.
The album offers impressive stylistic variety over these 17 tracks, with pub rock, R&B, New Orleans, country, folk and deep soul influences. Miller's gritty and soulful voice is on a par with that of Tom Waits or Rod Stewart, whilst his great compositions like When I'm Away From You, I Can't Change It and To Dream The Dream have stood the test of time very well.
It is ironic that Miller, whose songs were covered by among others The Bellamy Brothers, Kim Carnes, Waylon Jennings, Bob Seger, Bonnie Tyler and Joe Walsh, never had a hit with any of his own compositions. He remains a unique talent, a remarkable composer and skilled vocalist whose contribution to the music of the 1970s and 1980s is overdue for rediscovery and renewed appreciation.

BRILLIANT RENDITION OF THE TALENTS OF THE ONLY VOCALIST ABLE TO SIT ALONGSIDE PAUL ROGERS AND TERRY REID. FRANKIE MILLERS WHISKY AND HONEY SOAKED VOICE IS A GIFT TO US ALL. IF YOU ONLY BUY ONE ALBUM THIS YEAR THEN MAKE IT THIS ONE ( THEN MAKE ROOM FOR MORE, BELIEVE ME ).

This is a brilliant CD would recommend(especially if you were about on the scene in the 60/70's in Scotland)for Caledonia alone! Send it to any Scot who has gone to live abroad. Bonus is that the price is unbelievable too!

After reading an article in Classic Rock (UK) mag this month I dug out this CD which I purchased years ago.....I have all his early albums and was fortunate to see FM and Full House a few times. Listening to it reminded me of the loss, although I understand Frankie is getting back to reasonable health, and really made me question why I hadn't given this or the albums more airplay. I sought out CD upgrades here but found them to be pretty expensive so I have just downloaded; The Rock; Double Trouble; Full House; High Life and, Once in a Blue Moon.

Fabulous stuff to be had.....let this CD be your introduction but do seek out his full albums.

Bless you Frankie.

A blast from the past in that this was one of the best rock and blues singer of the 70's who sadly never made it to the top for a length of time. Good songs if you like this kind of music but needs a listen or two as I have not heard some of the music for years. Over all a good CD for the money to relive the past era.

Didnt know a lot about Frankie M apart from the few songs everybody remembers. Took a chance from amazon recomms but this is very good with loads of great songs and vocals . Should have been more famous.

Remember him acting as well in an excellent Glasgow hardman role !

Frankie's voice is superb he should have been at the top of the charts with his music,it reminds me of my growing up in Glasgow and Caledonia well!!! what can I say so patriotic, the guy was a genius but not taken too seriously when he should have been.
