Product description

Product Description

Violinist Omar Puente's 'Best Foot Forward' represents the second stage of an international musical journey, and continues where his debut release 'From There to Here' left off. This second instalment continues to draw upon musical influences from around the globe and reflects a career living and working with musicians from around the world. Rooted in Omar's Afro Cuban heritage, the project fuses musical experiences from Brazil, Africa, the Caribbean and Europe, with a deep understanding of Jazz. This rich mix produces an album of complex and infectious rhythms and original melodies, performed by a multinational sextet, and an unusual combination of violin, trombone and extended rhythm section. In performance, this produces an irresistible urge to join in and dance.

2009's From There To Here marked the arrival of the Cuban violin virtuoso on the British jazz scene, and this excellent album full consolidates his standing. If that debut skipped its way into life this one positively explodes from the superb opener 'Danza De Los Spiritus', which could easily be a floor filler if it falls into the hands of the right DJ. The sound is dense, percussive and kinetic, the rippling keyboard lines and 'hand drums' meshing to conjure up an image of Jean-Luc Ponty in Senegal as the leader lays down a marker on the idiomatic breadth that defines the whole set... There has never been any doubt over Puente's ability, but this offering, with its tracks well sequenced and excellently engineered, marks his graduation to a bandleader, arranger and composer to match the accomplished soloist - **** --Kevin Le Gendre, Jazzwise, August 2016
