To say this book is a page-turner is a bit of an understatement. The author very cleverly uravels the plot before you giving you just enough to want to read on a bit more.
Spanning two timelines, the same story is told/seen from different perspectives. This alone makes it an engaging read. Add to that the fact that the author is either a historian or has done an incredible amount of research makes you feel like you are reading something worthy of your time.
The lines between fact and fiction are wonderfully blurred. I would suggest that, unless you are an expert on the subject matter, you wouldn't know where those edges were. That, for me, was one of the more enjoyable aspects.
Once Pandora's Box has been opened and the plot begins to reveal itself it is a race between your brain and your eyes to reach the finish line, forever trying to guess where the story is going as you read along, adjusting those guesses en route.
As for the story itself - without giving anything away - it is clever, complex (yet easily understandable) and not out of the realms of belief. Poignant, as well.
I am knew to Iain Parke's writing (my interest in WW2 lured me into this) but will certainly be checking out the back catalogue.
