Jaysus, does anyone really want or need a reissue of a 21 track (that's twenty one tracks) compilation of Damned odds and sods seemingly randomly scattered across a decade or so. Well, there must be a couple of fans out there who disn't buy this on its original 19 track release in 2004, so here we go. The ones who did buy it will be pleased to discover that an extra couple of live tracks - 'Stranger On the Town' and 'Street Of Dreams' have been squeezed on as extras (although see below).

There's a couple of live tracks from 1977 which just go to confirm that punk really was awful. 'Stab Your Back' and 'Idiot Box' are barely listenable. Some of the material is of indeterminate origin and its mainly live, but I'll always have time for gems like 'Thanks For The Night' and 'Nasty', a single I remember rushing out to buy having heard the B-side on the radiogram. And, I don't have it on CD, so it's very welcome. Unlike the 12" bonus track 'Do The Blitz'.

Thankfully, a lot of the live material is of soundboard quality from a gig in 1985, and I suspect it comes from the "Fiendish Shadows" live album which came out in America about ten years back, which documented the "Phantasmagoria" tour. Some of that was from a London show and some recorded at the Santa Monica Civic in California on 17/12/85. That means as well as the hits you get some underrated tunes like "Stranger on the Town" and covers of the Electric Prunes 'I Had Too Much to Dream Last Night', which was only released as a Naz Nomad and the Nightmares release as well as a bash at Iggy Pop's 'Lust for Life'.

There is a lot to enjoy here, I'm just not sure what the point is. One to annoy the completists.
