This CD must have been produced when the engineers had a bad day - or they didn't know Berry's music. Berry is a classic musician, and I still have all his music on old 45s and LPs. I bought the CD for my 'modern' music system, and found that whereas Berry himself comes over well, the instrumental backing is very soft. On some tracks, the piano, so essential to the overall sound, is virtually inaudible. The tracks are his greatest, but the reproduction on the CD does not produce the best of Berry.

For all Chuck Berry Fans - this is the album! For all those who enjoy the trademark quick lick blues sound for which C.B. is renown and will always be remembered, and those who are looking for a definitive collection - I would certainly suggest this album.
My only critism is that so many of Berry's tracks sound identical, especially the intros, nevertheless the humour and guitar pro-ess will get you listening to this album again and again.
Noteworthy tracks include: Roll over Beethoven, Johnny B Goode, You never can Tell (on the Pulp Fiction Soundtrack).
He is guaranteed to, at least, get your foot tapping - give it a listen: you won't be disappointed.

Classic Chess-period back-catalogue, mostly singles, but a few album tracks where these have become well-known through other versions, from his first single, Maybelline, to an extended live version of Reelin' And Rockin' in 1972, showing his sly, witty lyrics which flow with the beat so skillfully and rhythmically, and his exemplary guitar playing and singing. It is hard to over-estimate the influence Chuck Berry had, particularly in the nineteen-sixties, on other musicians and songwriters, including for starters the Beatles, the Stones, the Beach Boys and Bob Dylan

Yes this best of Chuck Berry album gives you great value for money. I bought it as used cd,it was in excellent nick, both discs, considering it was released in 1999, The sound quality excellent , I didn't realise how many hit songs chuck had churned out, The king of rock n roll, such an influence to a lot of people over the years, the 12 bar blues/rock n roll riffs around 3 chords were developed and hammered out as such infectious songs over the years. There's some tidy honky tonk piano on a lot of these songs too, like "sweet little sixteen" Johnny b Goode, and so on.Of course non were very long, 2 to 2and half minutes on average ,all the versions on this compilation are very good, there's a great live track lasting over 5 minutes "Reeling and rocking". If I'm being picky there's the odd naff track, but if your browsing through looking to purchase some chuck berry and there's a lot out there, go yor this one you will not be disappointed.

Recording for Chess, the label that defined Chicago Blues with names like Howlin' Wolf, Muddy Waters and Willie Dixon on their roster, on the recommendation of John Lee Hooker, Chuck Berry produced music that became the soundtrack for a generation.

With a style clearly developed from the electric guitar experimentation of T-Bone Walker, Berry used instantly recognisable and infectious rock and roll guitar riffs to hook you into his exuberant tales of teenage love and life. Whether talking about happy young newlyweds (you never can tell), car racing (Maybelline), meeting the girl of your dreams (Little Queenie) his music is full of joy. But he could play the blues as well, as tracks such as Havana Girl or Memphis Tennessee show. There was also a broad sense of humour to his work - exemplified in My Ding a Ling or No Particular Place to Go.

This two CD set collects 40 tracks from Berry's chess years, and contains all of his essential hits and a few lesser known but still very very good tracks. There is no filler to be found here. It contains a lot mopre depth and breadth than any single disc best of, and is the best selection out there as far as I can see.

I wanted this CD for one track, for use in my dance exercise classes, but there are other tracks which I can also use. I'm happy with the condition of the CD, as I have been with all CDs I've purchased from Zoverstocks. Unfortunately, the library case was cracked on both sides, but that probably happened in the post.

Good service and new product received. Great tracks and brings back a few good memories. Some tracks I'm not so keen on but can easily skip those.
