This is a great Games Collection book compiled and annotated by Jon Speelman.

It was written before the advent of chess computers so I wonder now how some of the detailed analysis has held up.

I suspect very well!

HASH(0x96ae9be8) out of 5 stars Wonderful Games, Superb Annotations 11 Feb. 2015

.This is a gem of a book and it is a pity it is out of print and only available on the used books market. My original copy purchased new when it was first published is now falling apart [literally]. When I first got this book I was ELO 1300. By the time I had studied all the games and Speelman's deep analysis I was playing in international tournaments and actually managed to beat an IM in a London tournament. The games are lovingly analysed if that is not too strong a word, Speelman wants to get to the truth of a position / game. This book is a world apart from the Kasparov style of analysis where you get reams of computer-checked lines but very little intuition. With Speelman, intuition comes first - perhaps a reflection of the style of this creative, imaginative player who at his peak was ranked Number 5 on the FIDE World ELO rating list. If you would like to improve your game dramatically, I strongly urge you to beg, borrow or perhaps use every means to get hold of a second hand copy on the internet.
