Apart from the classics light "Goody Goody Gumdrops" and "Simon Says" plus others the compilation explores the depth of creativity the 1910 Fruitgum Co. possessed even with Italian versions of three hits but with the zany stuff too such as "Sticky Sticky". All in all a feelgood album ideal for driving

If you like the sound of the "Bubblegum" music, be sure to buy this CD. All the greatest hits of 1910 Fruitgum Co are included here. I have been lookin' for "When We Get Married" on CD for years, and suddenly the song appeared here. And also "Simon Says", "1-2-3 Red Light", "Goody Goody Gumdrops". You MUST own this compilation.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simon Says 25 Dec. 2015
By Jake D. Burrows - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD Verified Purchase
I enjoyed "the Best of the 1910 Fruitgum Company", released 10 years ago. this CD has 28 songs included. some of them are instrumentals including "Baby Brett," "the Track" and there classics here included "Simon Says", "1 2 3 Red Light", "Goody Goody Gumdrops", "Indian Giver", which was covered by the Ramones, "When We Get Married", "Lawdie" and "Reflections from the Looking Glass". there were songs I wish were included and some I wish were left out. I wish they included "Bubblegum World" and "1910 Fruitgum Cotton Candy Castle" instead of the instrumentals. the Italian recordings of "Simon Says", "1 2 3 Red Light" and "Reflections from the Looking Glass" are nothing worth buying this CD for. there is a nice 8 page leaflet of liner notes in this package. the sound quality is the best sounding 1910 Fruitgum Company hits CD that has been released so far. I also enjoyed "the Game of Love", "the Clock", "Sister John" and "Hook, Line and Sinker". this CD is supposed to play "Song Song", but plays "Sister John" instead. it has a Simon and Garfunkel style sound to it. I am still looking for a recording of the Song Song by 1910 Fruitgum Company to add to my collection. it was available on the "1 2 3 Red Light" album.

4.0 out of 5 stars Bubblegum Music Or Not: Several Of These Songs Are Very Charming!! 4 Mar. 2013
By My Opinion - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD Verified Purchase
And a Few of them are among The Best Ever.....Period!! The 2001 Buddha Records 16 Song CD of The 1910 Fruitgum Co. is Nice (I've owned it since around 2004) but compared to this 2006 Repertoire Records CD: It's only Decent.....for At Least Three reasons. One of the reasons is the Sound Quality on This Disc is better. Another reason is this CD has "When We Get Married" on it and it's MIA on The Buddha Records CD and it's also one of my Favorites by this Band. That Song didn't quite make The Top 100 (it Peaked at #118 in November 1969) but it is a underrated Song that should have Charted Much better. It has a Charming Beach Boys/Jan And Dean Feel to it. Another reason is there are 28 Songs on this CD so it gives you much more of what This Band was all about.

All of their other more popular Songs are also here including "Simon Says" which was a #4 US Hit in January of 1968, "May I Take A Giant Step (Into Your Heart)" which was a #63 US Hit in April 1968, "1 2 3 Red Light" which was a #5 US Hit in July 1968, "Goody Goody Gumdrops" which was a #37 US Hit in October 1968 (and it should have Charted Much better also), "Indian Giver" which was a #5 US Hit in January 1969, "Special Delivery" which was a #38 US Hit in May 1969 (and it should have Charted Much better also) , "The Train" which was a #57 US Hit in August 1969 and if you are an Old-Timer like me: you will probably remember at least a few of their other Songs on here. I know I do: and Two of those I remember are "Go Away" and "Lawdy Lawdy". Like The Song "When We Get Married": Those Two: were Also Underrated and they aren't on The 2001 Buddha Records CD either.

In Typical Repertoire Records Fashion: This is a Very Nice Package with a Good Biography of The Band and there are also some Colorful Photos of The Band Plus there are Three of their well known Songs on here that are sang in Italian. This Package comes in The Standard Plastic Jewel Case. Folks: I own approximately a dozen or so Repertoire Records CD Packages and they All sound Great and they All are either 1950s or 1960's Artists!

My Final Thoughts: Several Critics of the day wrote The 1910 Fruitgum Co. off as Just Another Light Weight Bubblegum Act but These Hit Songs have Always Withstood The Test Of Time!.....In 1968 & 1969 I was 15 to 17 Years Old and I thought This Band was Great! Like The Archies: They made it to a Repertoire Records CD Compilation So that tells you that The 1910 Fruitgum Co. is Timeless and they have left their Mark in Music History!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Collection 11 April 2007
By GretschViking - Published on Amazon.com

With this compilation, I was able to finally fill some voids in my 1910 Fruitgum Company collection. Included are the Italian versions of "Reflections From The Looking Glass" ('C'e Qualcosa Che Non Ricordo Piu') and more importantly "Simon Says" ('Semplicissimo') and "1,2,3 Red Light" ('Hip Hip Hip Urah!'). I have been searching for the latter two for many years and now, here they are.....finally! Though they are dubbed from records, the only one that suffers is "Simon Says". The "Dubber" did not align the 45 correctly with their turntable spindle so it plays with a bit of "nausea" (warped). This seems to happen quite often and I really wish the powers that be would put more effort into the fact that not all records line up perfectly without a little help. Another downfall is the tune "The Song Song". I have many memories of that "song song" which was track two on side ONE of the 1968 LP "1,2,3 Red Light". This CD states that "The Song Song" is a part of the compilation but it actually plays "Sister John" which was track two on side TWO of the 1968 LP "1,2,3 Red Light". What gives? Anyway, in 2006 I went to see the 1910 Fruitgum Company in New Jersey. After the show, I met the guys in the band and had mentioned how I have been digging around for those Italian versions. I had also mentioned how much I liked the song "The Book". Suddenly, here they all are, on one CD! Well that just makes my day! Groovy baby..............

4.0 out of 5 stars THE One to Get... 20 April 2010
By Lee Cushing - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD Verified Purchase
This is perhaps the finest collection available of the Fruitgum Co. for true Bubblegum fans (you know who you are.)Outside of tracking down each individual Fruitgum album (a worthwhile enough undertaking) this is the one single disc to buy. You get not only their actual "Greatest Hits" and smash singles, but some real obscurities. Later singles, b-sides that do not appear on the LPs (and, to my knowledge, some of which have never seen any re-release before this.) The only non-LP b-side not appearing on this disc is "Pow Wow" which is a backwards song about Howdy Doody. You can live without it.

Really tasty little collection though overall, by one of 'gum's biggest acts.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Compilation 30 April 2012
By Bug - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD Verified Purchase
Although this may look like just another greatest hit package, it's really more than that. It contains the A & B sides (plus a U.K. only B side) of their BUDDAH (as it was incorrectly spelled on the label back then) output. But the main reason I bought it was the Italian versions of their hits Simon Says, 1-2-3 Red Light and Reflections From The Looking Glass (the B-side of Simon Says). A well put together and very enjoyable cd and well worth a listen.
