A river cruise is undoubtedly the most civilized way to see the best of Europe; you can relax in the comfort of a small vessel as you glide through beautiful towns and spectacular scenery. But how do you choose which cruise company, which kind of rivership, and where to go? The Berlitz guide to River Cruising in Europe will tell you everything you need to know about taking a cruise along Europe's beautiful rivers and waterways. The book cuts through the brochures' hype - almost every river cruise company promises you luxury. But what does 'luxury' really mean? The guide gives you unbiased advice on the different kinds of river vessels and the facilities they offer, helping you to make an informed choice. We take you on a journey along Europe's rivers and waterways, describing the highlights along the way - the historic cities and majestic scenery of the Danube, the castles and vineyards of the romantic Rhine, and much. Also included are listings for over 200 river vessels, which are described in detail and impartially rated, so that you can easily compare ships and their facilities.

This book is easy to read and to use and gives background into what the advertisements do not tell you - i.e., how good the food really is, what wines can you expect; is fully inclusive going to be suitable; if you are going for more than a week, how are you going to cope with the logistics of washing clothes as (I think) all river cruise ships do not have a laundry facility and only if you stay in the most expensive suites can you have a very small number of items laundered. This book gives you all the details about all presently available river cruise lines and boats available. Anyone who hasn't been before should read this before booking so as to avoid possible disappointment.
We now have a different perspective about which boat/s would suit us and we feel that the cost of this book has been a wise investment.
As good and informative as the Cruise Guide for Sea Cruising.
Well worth having as a reference book for river boat information.

Excellent for our trip and gave info on most of the places we stopped. Most of the reference to various boats were a waste of space but loved maps etc.Published 7 months ago by Plymouthite

Lots of info, but a touch superficial. Many river-vessels to cover in a fairly small book.Published 12 months ago by I & M McMahon
