I've used this rucksack all over the place. It's my hand luggage, my day sack, my adventure sack - everything. First I will start with a general run-through and then go into more detail for those that want it.
I don't believe that you will find a better bag. It is comfy to wear for hours on end, fits in much more than you would realise (2-3 days of living) and suits any adventure you desire to take it on. The water bottle pouch fits most sizes, however it won't hold a large bottle in if you hold the bag upside down (500ml bottles are fine). There is a division to the inner compartment for a laptop, as well as a small sack for putting smaller things in or stuff that you don't want ending up in the bottom of your bag. The clip on the outside comes in handy when attaching dry sacks to it in order to expand you range slightly, e.g. putting a raincoat there.
Here are those activities:
I've spent a few weeks skiing with this on my back, both military and civilian usage. It fits well, doesn't impede balance or movement and never felt insecure. It carried my warm kit, water and GoPro kit around and I quickly forgot it was even there. The chest strap made me feel extra sure it was secure.
I've taken this daysack on a few trekking adventures. The most notable was my climb of Mt Rinjani, sea level to summit. At around 3,700m it takes a couple of days. I took food, water and clothing in this daysack and tenting was provided. I stuck my kit in a drysack to keep the rain out, and hence I was left with dry kit, and a bag that sits comfortably on my back. I also went trekking through a national park for a few days, living out of this daysack. It is just big enough to carry everything you need bar sleeping equipment.
I motorbiked 1600km with this on my back, through Vietnam. I had two crashes (neither my fault) and it has come away from both with less scarring than me. It carried GoPro kit, water, raincoat and food as well as a spare pair of clothes and a sleeping bag liner. All throughout it never got uncomfortable even when worn for hours on end.
I travelled for four months, wearing this bag quite literally every single day. It got repeatedly wet, dropped, scraped and abused however it is still sat in my room today. It always had enough room for my kit, and for long periods I would live out of it instead of using the larger bag I also carried from hotel to hotel. It went with me through multiple countries and climates but never once did it falter. The straps are still just as strong as ever and there is no sign of weak threads or failure. For long periods I wouldn't even realise I had my bag on, and with the chest strap I always felt slightly safer in the bigger, more thief friendly cities. A book at the bottom and a dry sack on top of this, attached by string to the bag itself was my way of making sure that even if my bag was slit open I wouldn't lose my belongings.
I run with this bag on. It doesn't swing about, has a strap in the case that I want a little more support and fits neatly on my back. I can run for a few hours without even feeling the weight or any rubbing etc. whatsoever.
This bag is now my University bag. It carries my books, utensils, laptop and water to every lecture. Other than the slightly faded colour from months of use, there is no sign of any wear. I can put in huge textbooks with all my other stuff without having to worry about the bag breaking, and find that the bag is still comfortable to wear even with the heavy weights.
Overall this bag is a fantastic buy. Whatever you want to do with it, it will follow you till the very end.
That aside, I absolutely love this bag! It's my first Berghaus product but it won't be my last. It is extremely well made and just feels like a quality bag. I use this all the time now for my sports kit, for walking and just general travel. The pocket placement is well thought out and for the price, I think it is extremely good value for money.
