I bought this to use for a few weeks traveling Japan and South Korea and it did the job, but there were a few issues.

1. When the rucksac is full, or even half full, I found it difficult to zip up the back cover to hide the harness.
2. There is what i can only describe as a 2 stage compression strap system. When the day pack is off, the clips that hold it on, clip together across the main pack, then there is a strap which goes from these clips to the main compression straps, but they only connect by sliding over a very flimsy plastic "hook". This was the worst thing, they just slid off!
It’s difficult to describe but when I put it on a plane, i had to use the excess compression strap to tie around this hook to stop it sliding off and to re-enforce the plastic clip else it would just snap if the strap was caught. The rucksac allows you to zip away the harness, yet leaves these loose waiting to be caught!
3. The way the day pack attaches to the shoulder straps of the main bag could be better. There are two hooks which were awkward to clip on and off, but i also found as there is no real length to these fittings, the day pack didn't sit right on the front, the bottom pushed out, i ended up not using them and just slung the day pack over my shoulder.

Apart from these issues, all in all it did what i wanted it to do. It was comfortable to wear, the shoulder straps fitted well once all correctly adjusted. The 15litre day pack was also nice size, i used it as my cabin bag. The bag also comes with a single should strap which I found useful if I was only carrying it a short distance.
This went on several planes, trains, cars, boats and looks as good as new so I'd say the materials are good quality.

My friend had an Osprey which i think was probably a better design... but not by much...

Great 2 piece rucksack, with removable hand luggage. Probably aimed at the backpacker travel market rather than serious walkers? Large enough for a long trip, but comfortable straps and padding. Lots of useful pockets but not all zips are easy to secure with small locks when luggage is left. Strong material takes plenty of hard wearing but still wipes clean. Recommended

Bought this rucksack for travel to Thailand, had to choose between osprey farpoint and jalan2. I preferred Jalan: it's more solid and I would say will last longer. Was very happy with that until noticed that few minor but very unpleasant faults were discovered. ( for this price I expected to get a real German quality). However after 1 week of traveling the holding strap on a day bag was torn from one side. Secondly, it takes a hell amount of time and strength to zip completely back cover which hides rucksack's straps for traveling. It looks like they saved on costs and put only 1 zip and probably there is a fault in a design. To compare osprey has 2 zips so its is much easier to close. Apart these the bag is very comfortable to carry and 15 litres day bag is very handy. Another minor minus is the way the day bag attached to the main bag Infront. Instead of using normal push locks Jalan uses hooks. I found it very uncomfortable to take a day bag off when walking around. I hope it's just me being unlucky. Would like to hear if someone else experienced similar problems. Thank you for reading.

I brought this for a trip to Vietnam last year in October. I have used it since for a few other smaller trips, and I am very happy with it. It is very light when empty, and it has all the features I want.

Overall, the bag is very solidly built. The straps are comfortable enough, the detatchable day-pack is a nice plus. It's a good front-opening bag (with a top opening as well). HOWEVER, beware of the zippers. The zippers are all plastic clamps on nylon strings, and the clamps are pretty mediocre. The first one came off as I was packing for my trip - literally on the first use. It is still a great bag, and the zipper problem can be easily fixed by pouring some super-glue into the zipper clamps - just do it before you start using the bags/the zippers start falling off.
