I had once upon a time the cd to which the picture belongs. Julian Glover reading beowulf. This particular purchase seems to be a re-recording of the original - at times the sound quality is not very clear and disappointing. There is accompanying a photocopied booklet of the written text - which at first seems helpful but on following it through one finds the pages are mixed up and this causes confusion until you find your place again.

All in all somewhat disappointing - particularly as the original version is no longer available and one has to rely upon this type of effort to be able to listen to the wonderful Julian Glover at his best.

I thought this was a great version. I particularly love the way the story is read, with Old English version interleaved with the translated version frol time to time, giving a real atmosphere to the story. I can't comment about the previous reviewer's comment - I have been looking for a CD version for ages, and I always listen in the car so poor sound quality would be lost on me.
