I bought this to use to support a canon 70-200L + 1.4 converter for a trip to the Arctic. If it hadn't worked well, I'd have been stuck. I put a quick release manfrotto head on it. It was an ideal size for strapping onto my small rucksac for zodial (rubber dinghy) trips and held the lens/camera really steady.
I read a few "how to" websites on monopod technique. That and this have provided me with pin-sharp photos of walruses at 100m distance.
Highly rated.
