Destined to become an essential classic on any cavers bookshelf, Howard's new book takes an epic sweep through nearly thirty years of cave exploration in Papua New Guinea from 1970 to 2000. There are good reviews on the web already, and rather than attempt to emulate these I will simply say that as one of the members of one of the expeditions covered (Atea 77) I found the descriptions of mega cave exploration gripping, vivid, accurate and original. The photographs are superb. This is a real labour of love by a guy who knows better than most what it is like to live and breathe original exploration. Howard is both an explorer and a fine storyteller.
