This is by a long shot the most exciting toy I have bought in years and years. I have turned my bedroom into my own mini home cinema and I generally now can't wait to retire to it on a Friday night or on a lazy Sunday afternoon - whereas previously these times could be marred by boredom.
There is something about a beam of light, lighting up dust particles in the air as it flickers over your shoulder, that creates a certain magic of real cinema that no TV can come close to.
The picture is sharp and clear, the colours are accurate and it has a rather long lasting lamp.
The fan is also very quiet, the most quiet in its class from what I have read and I am completely unaware of it during films.
My room is about 2.75m x 4m (it's my bedroom as I mentioned) and I manage to get a 100" image across the short side of my room.
Because of my limited space, the projector must sit on a table next my bed. Which means it's exhaust is literally 30-50cm from my face. In the winter this warm breeze is rather pleasant, but we shall see how this pans out in the summer. But this is no fault of the projector, its merely a consequence of my insistence on having a 100" screen at the bottom of my bed.
The only advice I can give you, is that a screen should not be considered a luxury. A screen is an imperative part of any home cinema - even at this price point.
I have a super flat, brand new, drywall painted with Dulux Trade Vinyl Matt White and for a month I projected onto this directly, not seeing the point of a screen. But let me tell you, once I had a screen installed, the picture improved by a hundred percent, if not more.
I've paired mine with the awesome Sony HT-MT300 soundbar and sub - the sub is only 10cm thick and is designed to slide under your sofa, or in my case bed.
The bass travels through my bed and places me right in the centre of the action.
Sure, there are projectors with better black levels if you have £3-5k to spend. There are also 4K models if you have got a steady stream of 4K content to feed them, but most of the affordable models perform no better than a native 1080p projector when displaying 1080p content, which let's face it, makes up most of what most people watch.
But for £800, this is the very best you will find.
