144hz (or even 120hz) is such a difference over 60hz. But going higher than that seems a bit counter-productive - I have a powerful setup but even I struggle to hit 144hz quite often with high detail options, even in games around 5 years old. So how would you ever hit higher FPS values to make use of those other very-expensive monitors without very-very-expensive hardware?
The only downside to this monitor is that you'll never want to upgrade to 4K, because getting 120+hz 4K to work as well as 1080p will be an absolute nightmare for many years to come.
Personally I don't need super-bright screen so I especially love the blur-reduction. Black eQualiser really can compress the contrast to unnatural levels but for gaming, that's actually great (indeed it feels somewhat unfair for everyone else...). I understand now why the screen comes a handy control unit to switch between presets. Colour Vibrance is similarly not great for normal desktop use but works fantastically for gaming.
144Hz is superb compared to 60Hz. Your mileage may vary but I have no regrets and highly recommend running the blur busters tests to really illustrate the problems with your current monitor. Particularly with the blur-reduction properly configured, all the tests on blur busters look incredible compared to my 60Hz 2nd screen and this really does impact performance in any game that requires speed and precision.
Amazon delivery is the standard other companies should hope to achieve. The amazon ordered one arrived on time (or even early) and the monitor itself is superb. The other company and Amazon re seller I selected to buy from chose a crap courier and failed to meet their delivery promise completely. missing all delivery targets (despite me waiting in the house for delivery) and eventually stating they had 'lost' the parcel completely.
So here I am sat with an old IIyama E2407HDS and a new XL2430T and the color difference and image quality between the two is staggering. I always thought the IIyama was a good monitor but compared to the xl2430t the white looks yellow (believe me I have tweaked the be'jesus out of it in an attempt to get it near the clarity and brilliance of the Benq offering to no avail.) and the image lacks the sharpness and clarity of the Benq.
Running games on the Benq at 144hz is a joy (note:New driver installation and DisplayPort are necessary evils - this Monitor does not work optimally straight out of the box - mine was too bright and too vibrant but soon calmed down with a bit of tweaking) and the number of different profiles makes having separate setups for word /FPS / RPG etc easy and swapping between them using the 'monitor mouse switch thing' a doddle.
As I have now been let down badly by the other seller and their poor choice of courier (Box.co.uk in case you are wondering) I now have the choice of keeping the two 1920x1080 monitors (one 60hz and one 144hz) I have but I am not sure I can stand noticing the persistent differences between them. A matched pair would be so much better - although unfortunately it will now cost me £35 more than 9 days ago, when I ordered the two, to achieve this, but I think I am going to have to go for it when the refund finally hits my bank account - the Benq is that good.
Bitching aside - the monitor is perfect, the amazon delivery is perfect. I only got to see just how good the Benq monitor is because of the comparison I have been forced to make between my old and new monitors and it just reinforces the decision to go XL2430T.
I reinstalled Left 4 Dead 2 from Steam for something I knew would give me all of the frames in the world to really test out the performance; and sure enough it is one smooth experience. The low response time and high refresh was something you just have to experience - games that move faster exagerating the benefit.
But then after the initial novelty passed me over I started to look at the actual picture. Out of the box it is utterly terrible and that was not a deal breaker because we all have our opinions and stuff can be tweaked right? Well I can't get it looking anything close to good. There are 8 presets and they all look like QC could be bothered that day. I went with standard and tried to gently amend out the things I didn't like and put in the things I did.
But I can't. I've tried installing the BenQ DisplayPilot software and doing all that, going through the Windows calibration programme, adjusting the NVidia control panel colour settings, downloading ICC profiles, calibrating against lagom.nl's website, going through dozens of personal settings that other people have posted and which get a good picture on Amazon.co.uk and Amazon.com, TomsHardware, reddit you name it.
I've got two old LG 22" 1080 monitors next to this new BenQ and the difference is night and day.
I spent between 5 and 6 hours trying to get a good picture reproduction and I can't do it any more so my gut tells me to return it. I knew colour reproduction wasn't going to be it's forte like a VA or IPS screen would be, but you're not paying peanuts, even at a Prime day price of 229 you should be getting an acceptable balance of colours (not getting washed out) and blacks (not getting crushed at one end or turning to grey at the other).
Good luck if you do go for this. Maybe I got a dodgy one.
I'll probably look at the LG24GM77 monitor next though. LG haven't let me down yet.
