I was a little concerned when I bought this that it was going to suffer from "Cheap ips syndrome" - backlight bleed, poor contrast etc. Wrong - it's a lovely monitor with the same panel as the bl2710pt - in other words not quite an ips panel - the pt is described as a VA panel. That said - it has minimal backlight bleed (unnoticable unless you do a black screen test in a dark room), great contrast and a nice stand. The image is so much better than the older Samsung it is replacing. It also it putting out so much less heat than old monitor too. Very good too is the low blue light mode which as a programmer I love. The screen is less matt than my other monitors. Colour accuracy I couldn't comment on other than to say it subjectively looks good. I don't have a colour munki. Gaming is fine too, but I'm not a 144hz, g-sync twitch player although I do play cryisis/l4d2/csgo/etc. The lag is not noticeable to me. Oh, and it has a DVI input along with the HDMI and DP inputs so if you have a couple of year old graphics card it'll work with this.
The bezel is glossy and in my case reflects an irritating amount of sunlight as the window is to my right and slightly behind. The worst bit is that I work with 3 monitors - this one is obviously so much better than the other two I may end up having to buy one or two more - just so I don't sit here being irritated by that every day.
Have I used better monitors than this? Well yes, but this cost £280, not £2000. Would I prefer a matt bezel? Yes. But the thing is, everything else about this monitor ends up with me thinking "this was only £280". Is a Dell Ultra Sharp or an Apple display be better? If you particularly like those monitors then possibly, but not otherwise.
One a separate note:
The one I got had obviously already been opened - there was 2 sets of sealing tape. Also it was missing a couple of cables - the dualink dvi one being the most annoying. However Amazon overnighted me a new DVI cable. I'll sort out an audio cable some other time. Can't bring myself to be bothered right now.
I have no idea why the previous person returned this - it must be something petty as they obviously took it out of the box - but equally obviously never put it together.
I have searched web for more than a month to search a right monitor for me within my budget and this was my final choice in the end.
To be honest, I shouldn't have chosen VA panel, since i've been using IPS panel for my lifetime, colour was very hard to get used at.
It still feels too bright for me(even with brightness etc controlled), which tires my eyes pretty quickly.
However, depth of colour presentation seems to be better than monitors I have used.
Maybe it's my luck, but I did not have any dead pixel nor light bleeding issue which other people seems to have.
Only thing I can notice is that bottom of screen gets heated up from long time use, but its not even close to a level of being harmful and I rarely get to touch there so it's all fine.
Only reason I'm taking a star away is because speaker quality is absolutely disappointing. I did not really expect integrated speaker to perform well, but when I gave it a go it was so horrible. Rather get cheap like 10~20 pounds earphone/headphone/speaker, it would sound better.
But let's not forget this is a monitor, not speaker. It does its job impressively as a monitor.
Overall, This is a great monitor which I believe is worth the money I've paid for.
After using it for about 16 months I can safely say this was a fantastic purchase. The size is perfect, the build quality and stand are solid and the colour reproduction is great.
The fact that the monitor has DisplayPort, HDMI, DVI and VGA connections is useful as you can pretty much connect it to anything.
I think the only issue i've ever had with this monitor is sometimes when my PC goes to sleep I can't wake the monitor back up and it needs to be unplugged and powered down before reconnecting. This was on OSX Mavericks using a Hackintosh though so I imagine that problem has something to do with that. I've never experienced the same thing on Windows but thought it was worth mentioning.
Apart from that i'd say maybe if you're a PC gamer and have a powerful enough GPU possibly go for a 120hz or 144hz 1440p monitor to make the most of the extra power. If you're only doing design/animation work on it though I can't recommend it highly enough.
I've owned this a good few months now and I've not had any problems with dead pixels etc. Just great.
