Once in HDR mode, cannot adjust HDR picture settings, too blue tone/tint. (see pictures, in HDR the white cloud is blue)
I gave 2 stars, as on SDR the picture is great.
** EDIT 01 September 2018 : regarding the blue tint/tone, i have later contacted Benq. Main problem was FIRMWARE update which can ONLY be done by Benq technician, so they offered an exchange for another same monitor. I guess i had the very early model. ****Great monitor and their customer service too!!!
***Would get 5 stars if firmware was updatable via USB or something.
****And also, once in HDR, all brightness/contrast settings are disabled. Even though in HDR, more peak brightness is better, but on some dark scene the backlight leaks through, kinda annoying.
I originally bought one of these for my Xbox One X (HDR mainly) as I use that for 4k Bluray, Netflix, Prime Video UHD etc.
I was quite impressed so sold my Acer Pred and bought a second as a main PC monitor too.
-4k HDR (350-400nits in reviews). This may not be HDR 1000 Nits but it makes a massive difference to HDR content over an SDR display. Shadows and definition between middle greys, browns are clear; with colours appearing more vivid and punchy.
-Value - The next 4k HDR 32" is an LG at over £800. I bought this at £400 which shows brilliant value for money.
-Stand is decent (although I vesa mounted).
-Bezels are not tiny, but also not large like some.
-No "gamer" aesthetic" which I found an issue with the old Acer Pred
-Ghosting is very minimal, which I find an issue with a similar samsung panel I own.
-It's only a matter of time before a 4k HDR 144Hz version is released at 32". This will be £1000 or so though.
-Va panel has good blacks and contrast but viewing angle is not quite that of an IPS. Much better than a TN though.
The blacks are deep and it is a bright panel so watching movies on this is brilliant with vivid colours and accurate colour display.
The screen is a perfect size for a PC monitor and I have experienced no light bleed or backlight issues and the included brightness intelligence function is amazing on the eyes at night or when you are working on this for a large amount of time.
It subtly dims to match your environment.
I have heard reviews complaining of colour uniformity not being great across the screen but I havent noticed any problems so far.
The main issue is the horribly washed out image, limited viewing angle and blacklight bleed exactly as the other reviewers say. It reminds me of the old laptop displays you used to get back in the 90s where there was no perfect viewing angle and edges would appear washed out and 'glow' from the backlight.
However, you've got to take price in to account, and this monitor is half the price of the LG. Normal desktop software development and net browsing is just about passable, the main issue will come with professional work or gaming with dark scenes where the light colours are washed out and grainy, and blacks get over lit by the backlight bleed and viewing angle easily.
HDR with xbox one x faired better than Standard (SDR) which wasn't great. It did look a lot better one the box recognised the HDR monitor. I will have to see if the Mac can support HDR and get a better desktop experience.
One tip, you may need to reboot your HDR device eg: xbox to make sure it's displaying correctly as the monitor HDR button will do emulation which isn't the same thing and make you think you're looking at HDR and is considerably worse, even though the xbox reported it was running in HDR mode it wasn't. After I restarted the xbox the picture was significantly better but it's still only worth two stars.
monitornerds give a positive review for this monitor, and was the sole reason I made the purchase. Maybe I'm doing something wrong and I can tweak some settings to improve the desktop image? I have tried and it always looks significantly undersaturated and washed out no matter what I do. It's like they're reviewing a different product, or one with different components.
My experience is that it's barely passable for desktop, ok for xbox & TV, but if you can afford more, go for the LG
