BENQ EW2430 LED Monitor
Quick Start Guide

So, what lets it down?
1. The lack of a height adjustment facility.
2. Motion blur - low refresh rate.
I have always worked with MAC as much as has been possible. It is lovely to sit down and work in front of something beautiful. When I sit in front of a PC I become depressed with it's corporate narrow mindedness evolved by the `suits'. However, I needed a monitor for my two new laptops. One a top of the range MacBook Pro and the other a bespoke `extreme machine' by Workstation Specialists - a PC. I needed a monitor for running software such as REVIT, 3-D MAX, AUTOCAD, and PhotoShop & Illustrator. BTW - PhotoShop users will love this monitor as it gives so much room at the margins for 'floating palettes'.
I would like to purchase an Apple Cinema 27 inch but times are uncertain and `cash is king', so I kept to a stupidly low budget.
I read up on monitors and decided to plumb for the Benq EW2420. Then I read a review by someone with a MacBook and they gave a recommendation for the higher spec' monitor the EW2430. In fact the difference in price is only £10. I purchased the monitor through Amazon with Akobe - just wonderful service - next day delivery, etc,.
I do not read instructions, so went straight into opening the box and getting the item up and running. When I was a kid always had something left over from making my `airfix' kits that I had missed out when putting the model together. The packaging of the Benq reminded me of how I felt when I received the Apple MacBook Pro. Sublime packaging that made you feel like a wealthy King. Benq was not quite in the same league but very impressive nonetheless.Read more ›
No adjustments from the default settings - perfect pictures straight from the box. Excellent value for money & highly recommended.
In particular, the comments and graphs on native contrast ratio (3000:1) and black depth (0.04) are what made me decide on this screen.
I have owned the screen for a month. I am very pleased with it but I think there is further progress to be made in display technology, particularly in terms of lowest-possible black levels.
I calibrated the screen and here are my settings:
Bright10, Contrast50, Gamma1, Sharp2, R100, G97,
B89, AMA Off
The sound is good for an LCD monitor, but if you're interested in good sound then always use external speakers.
