It is black, leather-look plastic, and seems to be sturdily constructed, I am, of course, disappointed that it isn't the great bargain I thought it was, since I thought it really was leather, but it does everything that a £20-odd leather case would have done, and it is very hard wearing. Read the reviews of the Zire and Zire 21, and you will see that the most consistent criticism is of the silly blue rubber "cover". This does away with that, you take the rubber cover off, and put it inside this case and it is much better protected that it was. You could, if you were so inclined, clip it to your belt (though I can't imagine ever doing it) with the detachable belt clip.
Being that Zires and Zire 21s are the "very cheap" end of the PDA market you probably won't want to spend a fortune on a really expensive case (unless you want to hide it in something flash-looking and pretend it's a Tungsten T5 or similar), so I can recommend this as a very practical, good value solution to the annoying rubber cover problem. If I'd bought it as a non-leather case I may well have given it 5 stars.
The Zire and Zire 21 were basically the same PDA, at least on the outside, with all of the buttons etc. identically placed. The Z22 is a much-updated version, with an entirely new design - good design, I must add, but very different to the Zires. It is a bit smaller so does not fit snugly in this case and, as all the buttons (especially the on/off button) are in different places, it is essentially useless as a case for the Z22.
I can still recommend it to people who are using Zires and Zire 21s, though not as whole-heartedly as when it was cheaper, then it was a real bargain as well as being a good design.
1) You can't use the 5-way navigator button properly, and you can hardly see the power on button.
2) You have to push the handheld up out of the case to get the stylus out.
3) You can't access the headphone socket or the USB socket when in the case.
If you just want this to protect & clip your handheld on to your belt then this is great. But to use my Zire I find I'm just taking it out of the case, so much easier.
